I have been searching for dark roast oolong tea on Amazon for boba making and couldn't find anything that's great when steeped for prolonged time since that's how I make my boba. I bought something that's a dark roast from a Ranch 99 super market but that's very poor, not only does it taste bitter and unsmooth but also there was no aroma. Similar products at Amazon were found to be too light a roast such as Vahdam or one high mountain tea from Taiwan. Anxi Black Dragon was OK, though but something was always lacking. Now enter this one. As soon as I open the bag and take a whiff I was immediately excited, so I steeped one up with 95°C hot water and boy the Aroma is there although reserved, but the taste is almost impeccable. It's dark yet very, very smooth. Almost sweet and very nuanced, and there is no bitterness at all. Highly recommend since it is exceeding my expectation!

This tie guan yin wulong is very tasty. It has a wonderful balance of flavors, retaining fresh floral notes from lighter wulong preparation but introducing rich earthy flavors also. The leaves are quite dark because of roasting but the scent in cup is profuse and delicious.I would like to further state that Mr. Gryson's customer service puts others to shame. He has been very quick in response to all my inquiries and gone beyond any reasonable expectation of service by educating me not just about his products but tea generally. Valley of Tea is a source of delicious tea as well as an opportunity to become more deeply involved in the culture surrounding the plant and its liquor.

I like the tea good taste.

In 2017, I began a journey of exploration into the world of Chinese teas. I was previously an Indian tea drinker; Assam. Darjeeling, etc. I discovered many new flavors unknown to me even among the oolong and especially among the black teas of China. This tea is among the best. It has been described as having 'wheat and molasses' flavors by others. It is a tea I have been searching for as it is often sold out on line . I was glad to have found it here finally. My local Dim Sum restaurant serves it and introduced me to it. Not astringent and not as sweet as a Keemun, yet, with equal flavor and character. Highly recommend for those connoisseurs of fine teas.

Bottom line on the Da Hong Pao Nov 2023: It's fine, not bad at all, but nothing special. I'd classify it as bare minimum acceptable quality for drinking, but there's much better out there for not much more money. Brewing gongfu style I was 3 infusions in before it reached full potential, but dropped off immediately. No fines in the package, picking looked nice. The cup pic is the 4th infusion.Notes in case anyone is interested (brewed in well used Chaozhou clay pot): dry leaf - light nose, honey, lemon, wheat straw, cut grass, tobacco; rinse water - generic black tea nose with not much else, surprisingly strong minerality, slight honey sweetness, thin feel; wet leaf - powerful impression on the nose, charred broccoli, cut mint, peach cobbler; 1st infusion 200F 30-35s: same non-descript nose as the rinse, good color, not much flavor, a bit of minerality, but light feel; 2nd infusion 200F 1min: lighter nose but with a little of the vegatal notes back, slight improvement of black tea flavor, slightly more assertive minerality, a little of the sweetness from the rinse, slightly thicker rounder feel; 3rd infusion 200F 1.5min: more of same, slightly denser generic black tea flavor, thicker feel, as good as it's going to get - fine but nothing special at all; 4th infusion 210F 1.5min: some of the honey and wheat straw nose is back, minerality holding, but flavor and thickness are dropping off.

I gave this item the benefit of the doubt and satisfied my own curiosity. The pricing is more likely a fraud, in my opinion. A tiny amount for $25. One sale, the customer finds out, seller moves on to the next curious customer...The tea is ok, but not excellent. Far from. Steep one time. Second time almost tasteless. The taste is pretty plain, and a little bitter in second steep. Not the traditional good taste of Chinese tea. It's definitely not as good as the one I am currently drinking (TIAN HU SHAN Premium Oolong, $1/Ounce).

After doing some research I purchased this Pouchong Oolong for my mother, and fortunately it was very well received. Over the years my mother has unsuccessfully tried to find the Oolong variety from her childhood. She said this tasted just like what she remembered.It was easily steeped 3-4 times for some very nice, lightly colored, Oolong. Higher temperature water will result in a darker tea. We found no need for sugar or honey as it has a wonderfully sweet aroma, flavor, and mouth feel on its own. It's not quite a raw green tea nor is it a black tea.This one is a winner!

This product tastes like mud it was ridiculously expensive for a little bag of tea do not buy this and they won't give me a refund on it

Delicious Taiwanese tea, really good. Little expensive there are cheaper ways to get it but hey its amazon so what can you do eh. Wish had in huger quantity.
