Solid kit...
Fortunately, I have not experienced any broken cases, rusted parts, or any other negative issues with this product. I've had an older set of Crescent tools and they have been great for the last 10 years. Everything from home maintenance to car maintenance, my old kit has not failed me. I needed another set for traveling in my RV, which required a large selection than most portable tool kits offer. This is important to note, as I was looking for a wide variety of tools for RV repair and maintenance purposes. The set cam in with no packing issues like some of the older reviews had experienced. Once opened, the tools were all intact and in new condition. No anomalies, including the case and the latches on the case. The tools seem like they're as good quality as my older set without rubber handles, which I found a good feature as the rubber handles tend to turn under heavy duress. The variety of tools would work very well from the basic socket sets (standard/metric), screw drivers, and the even varying drivers needed for specialty screws. The size of the case is smaller than my older set and much more compact for permanent storage in my RV. In regards to the non-American made tools, I don't personally believe this will be an issue, as historically I have had no issues breaking ratchets, bending, or stripping tools like some other brands I've used. I can't answer for the longterm use, so please keep this in mind when considering my review. This is what I would consider a budget toolset with varying tools to do 98% of any home job or mechanics job. I've worked with both in my lifetime and I have found that these types of tools work fine in almost all applications. If you know how to use these tools, there's a good chance there isn't going to be an issue with them. If you abuse them or use them they way they were not intended, you have a good chance of breaking them over time or suffer from rust if not stored correctly. Whether you're using this on the road, at home, or in the garage, this is a good compact kit that will go a long way. The case is a very nice feature, as you don't need a separate toolbox for the tools themselves. If each space is filled, you know you have all your tools put away correctly. In regards to the bad reviews, if you get one delivered with any of these issues, I would return it for a new set. This is a set worth having around. Overall, I would recommend this kit for it's selection of tools, decent quality from Crescent (from historical experience), the included case, and the compact formfactor/weight of the case/kit.

Excellent basic mobile toolkit!
I bought this tool kit 3.5 years ago, and have put it through some real work. Here's my use case: I have a well equipped home workshop, including plenty of high quality mechanics hand tools. But increasingly, my wrenching has been done outside the shop or on the road. I bought this kit to carry along when I do recreational motorsports, carry it around the house for doing some types of maintenance (like rebuilding our washer and dryer), and carry it outside to work on motorcycles, snowmobiles, trailers, cars and trucks. I use the kit on a weekly, and sometimes daily, basis. The kit itself is a well designed collection of tools. The vast majority of tasks I use it for require no other wrenches, sockets, or screwdrivers. Naturally, I occasionally, I have need for larger sockets or screwdrivers, or ratcheting combination wrenches, etc. But this tool kit is the starting point for most projects. I keep it stowed in my house in a central location away from the shop where it is ready to go.... The case is mostly great. It really holds each of the tools well--sometimes too well. I frequently pop out the screwdriver to aid in popping out other tools. What is nice about the case is that I ALWAYS get all the tools back in the toolbox every time. The forced organization works well for me and ensures nothing gets lost. I enjoy doing maintenance even more when I am not wasting time fishing around in a toolbox for the right wrench or socket. In fact, using this took kit inspired me to organize all of my hand tools in my workshop. Most of the tools seem high quality and durable. The combination wrenches feel really good. The ratchet wrenches also feel very good. I've put some sockets through some high torques with no failures. Extensions are good. The screwdrivers are pretty good; they feel a little cheap, but they actually work quite well and have been durable for me. Some tools are acceptable, but not outstanding, primarily the slip plyers and the needle nose plyers. The Allen wrenches and hex bits are nothing special, but they are nice to have. I added a MulWark bit ratchet wrench to the kit, putting it in some free space under the ratchet wrench handles. I've put these tools through some paces on projects over the years, including a car engine swap, pulling engines out of snowmobiles and motorcycles, as well as lots and lots of vehicle maintenance. None of the tools have broken or have needed to be replaced. Negatives: The grip on the slip joint plyers slips off under heavy use. I live in the Pacific Northwest where it rains and drizzles a lot. The bit drivers, the slip joint plyers, and the needle nose plyers have some rust starting. It is my fault for not spraying them down with a protectant before working in the rain. The Allen wrenches have shown no signs of rust, and the rest of the tools have rust-proof plating. Overall, this took kit is an outstanding value. I would buy it again without hesitation.

Perfect for car or Jeep
I'm an avid do-it-yourselfer, the guy that all my friends go to for help with their cars, air conditioners, furnaces, etc. I have pretty much every tool a non-professional would have, ranging from Craftsman to Harbor Freight, so I feel I'm qualified to weigh in here... Some background on why I bought this set: I wanted some decent tools to throw in the back of my Jeep, as a "just in case" set, and I liked the assortment provided here. The case is really quite nice, but it's much bigger than I expected. No problem, I had no intention of keeping it. I pulled all the tools out and tossed them into a standard 50 cal ammo can. All of these tools fit with plenty of room for extras (the can was only about half full). (And by the way, my 11-year-old son wants me to mention that he loves the empty case for... um... whatever an 11-year-old would think of doing with it). The point of this is that you could toss it in your trunk as-is, or if you want to save a lot of space (at the expense of organization), you can do that, too. So, what do I think? Wow! These tools are nice. Considering they are (probably) made in China, I'm even more impressed. I would not be embarrassed to have these as my primary tools. The weight, quality, and finish is superb. Nothing like Harbor Freight tools, and in some ways, they are more pleasant to hold than my 1980's Craftsman tools (more rounded, fewer sharp edges). At this price, the selection is hard to beat. I like that there are a lot of wrenches, and dedicated screwdrivers, not just a bunch of bits (but on the other hand, you do get tons of bits for when you need them). So what's missing? What should you add? Well, if you've done much off-road 4x4 trail running, you'll probably agree that any tool kit should include a hammer (preferably a 2lb mini sledge), a metal saw (I include a standard hacksaw blade), duct tape, electrical tape, zip ties, some heavy insulated wire, some crimp connectors and a crimper. Whatever tool your 4x4 needs for front wheel bearings, or at least some sort of punch (which works with your sledge hammer). Maybe some WD40 or similar. A crappy multimeter, or a 12V test light. ?? Okay, back on topic: If you've read this far, you should just order this tool set. You know you want it!

Crescent Still makes the Best All Around Mechanics Tool Kit (after 20 years of use)
Functionally this is a great tool kit. I had one of these previously with the old style case, It hung on the wall in my garage for 20 years. The usual durable /unbreakable Chrome Vanadium steel that all quality tool manufacturers have come to use, and I will say, that in the 20 years of using this kit,.....I never had a single tool failure,.....I did have one ratchet that became a bit fussy when switching from tighten to loosen, and Crescent sent me a new one without hesitation. I am a moderately heavy user of the tools included in this kit as I restore and repair cars, trucks and motorcycles. For the majority of that 20 year span, I also had a full sized professional mechanics tool chest loaded with tools, but found over time that I generally found what I needed in this kit and it was always steps closer to me Hanging nearby on the wall. I love the organized look of it, and I always know when a tool is still "Out", whether I have loaned it out,....or left it in a vehicle. When I sold my home and moved to take a new job a year ago, I didn't know what my future living situation would be, so I decided it was time to get serious about decluttering and downsizing,....I sold ALL of my shop tools, equipment, workbenches, etc......everything. Something I had been thinking about for quite a while,......to reduce my footprint. I hadn't planned on selling my older version of this tool kit,....but the locking tabs on the old style case had broken over time,....and a few pieces had been lost over the years,....so I let it go. Once relocated, I needed some tools and grabbed a mechanics tool set (another brand) but it was only sockets and wrenches and one bit driver. I need to have standard screwdrivers (not bits) for that quick grab and go, plus need pliers on occasion,.....so after a bit of comparison shopping,.....I was right back to the trusty Crescent Mechanics tool Set. There have been some improvements along the way,....a sturdier case, better latches that look like they will be more durable over time, and a few tool changes, the addition of the Pump pliers is much appreciated,....and,....they have also added an adjustable wrench (generally referred to as a "Crescent Wrench" since it was this very company that invented the adjustable/Crescent wrench,....but curiously, the adjustable wrench was the only tool in the kit that was not marked "Crescent",..........seemed odd to me in so many ways. A missed opportunity to reinforce and continue the legend of the Crescent Wrench. Hmmm. The screwdrivers also have a new more anatomically correct shape and are easier to grip than the prior included screwdrivers,....but I do have to say that I would prefer the prior screwdriver predominantly black with a discreet red "Cresent" badge. Bright colored tool grips end up looking dirty and grimy in short order if they are used in the manner intended. Yes, I see that Snap On, Matco, Kobalt and almost all tool makers have gone to this style of tool grip,....and I imagine that it helps sell tools, but I must say that the one screwdriver That I have that I prefer ONLY because the tool grip stays as new indefinitely is my old clear plastic gripped Craftsman long reach Phillips Head. Same applies to the pliers in this kit,.....bright red grips,....I know the first time I use them,.....they will become dingy and worn out looking So actually considering Painting all the grips with dark gray or black plastic paint,....then just hope they hold up over time. For this to be the perfect kit for me,.....and I would happily pay more with these additions,....I would want to have ratcheting combination wrenches up to 21mm and sockets up to 24mm, plus diagonal cutters and a pair of vice grip style pliers and a ball peen hammer. I would buy THAT kit in a heartbeat! If they made that kit in a METRIC ONLY version,......even better!!!! Perhaps Crescent would consider making two kits?? One for metric, and one for SAE??? or A Metric Kit and auxiliary SAE wrenches and sockets only Kit that could be hung on the wall next to the big kit. How about it Crescent??

Great all around fix it kit!
If you are looking for a nice tool kit for all around household and auto, this kit is a great one! Let me state that I am a woman who loves to piddle in the garage and doesn't wait for my hubby to do minor fixes around the house or on my car. If you are a hard core mechanic that uses these tools to make a living, I'm not sure how they will hold up for you. This kit has 170 pieces and the numbers are not fluffed up by adding 25 screws and 10 zip ties like many other kits. Each of the 170 pieces is a real tool. You might not use every one but they are there if or when you need them. I like the fact that we get real screw drivers and a separate handle for the tips. A pair of needle nose pliers, a pair if channel locks and an adjustable wrench are a must in any kit I want to have. Only thing I need that isn't in here in a hammer and everyone prefers a different one so it was probably best not added. I have a rule that when using the tool box you must NOT close or put away the kit until ALL the tools are replaced in the kit. Since each tool has it's own spot it is easy to spot when something is missing. My "no close" rule kept my last kit in tact for 20 years and keeps this mama from being too unhappy. The tools stay in place when you open and close the case (provided you snap them into place). This is a feature I greatly appreciate because I have had kits that the pieces don't snap into place and each time I open it the tools fly out everywhere. Not conducive to doing quick jobs! The kit is a little heavier than I would like but you just can't have this nice of a kit with this many real pieces and not have a little heft. No way it is too heavy or hard to handle. My brother is a mechanic who use such brands as SnapOn, Mac, and Matco and he has told me before I purchased the kit that Crescent is a good tool brand. I am looking forward to enjoying this kit for a good long time.

Quality tools, great customer service.
I absolutely love this toolset. I had originally bought the older version in the lighter grey case when I got my very first car but recently they got left out on the porch and they rusted pretty bad so I decided to order the new-and-improved toolset and I have to say this set is even better than the older set; the carry case has been redesigned so its much more durable (though I've yet to use it in extremely hot weather) and I haven't had any tools fall out on me like with the old set. As for the tools themselves they're high quality, feel nice and heavy and I've never had any of them break on me despite having to put a lot of torque on them to loosen some rusty nuts, furthermore since they contain both Metric and Imperial I can use them to work on both my Ford and my Volkswagen without having to spend all kinds of money to have two toolsets for each. I did run into a snag though when I was working on my car and putting my tools away I was making sure all the pieces were accounted for except I couldn't find the 7/16 shallow socket but instead it seemed I have two 5/16 shallow sockets and I know the extra one wasn't from another toolset because these sockets have the new hexagon crescent logo on them. You might reason that I'd take a star off but the reason I still give this five stars is because I called up customer service and I explained to the representative the problem and she offered to send me the new socket without question. Overall this is a great value and I would highly recommend it.

Great buy for anyone.rrenc
I absolutely love this tool kit. I use it everyday for everything. Working around the house, on the car or anything else I can think of. The tools are great quality. All are made of some shiny metal, I don't want to go to the garage and check, but they're awesome. Handles any type of grime and just wipes right off. The three you get ratchets are strong and take any abuse you throw their way. I especially like the sockets. You have different sizes for each ratchet. The best of them all though is the deep sockets. You only have them for bigger bolts but they save a lot of hassle. You don't have to try to wrangle a big wrench into a tight spot with these sockets. You also get a couple of screwdrivers, a crescent wrench, a pair of needle nose and channellock pliers. Another great feature of this case is the bit screwdriver and the bits it comes with. Plenty of sizes of Allen wrenches, hex keys and different size Philips and flat heat screw drivers. One negative is the case itself. After a few uses some of the plastic hold downs got a little flat so the tool would come loose and fall out when I open the doors. Other than this one little piece this is a great buy. Great price, great tools.

4.5 Stars
A good set of decent quality tools. Definitely not Snap-On or Mac tools quality but you get what you pay for, a good set for the weekend warrior. Should have everything you need to tackle most mild to moderate repair jobs on a vehicle, lawnmower etc. Set seems to be geared towards automotive/engine repair. I bought it to take into pick and pull car salvage yards. It fits the bill well for this. But you kind of do need a few extra tools with this set, namely longer ratchets or a ratchet and wrench extender. The wrenches in this set are ridiculously small the 10mm is about 4 inches long. The largest wrench the 14mm can't be much more than 5-6" in length. Not even close to enough to remove stubborn 14mm nuts or bolts. Basically only good for holding a nut while you use the ratchet to loosen. The ratchets all suffer from the same issue. Why oh why are manufactures so resistant to giving you enough length to actually break loose stubborn bolts?? That's my main complaint with this set. If all the wrenches were 2-4" longer in length and all the ratchets 2-4" longer in handle length this set would be much better. As is, 50% of the bolts you will encounter will be too difficult to remove with these short little handled tools. They sell clever extenders that increase the length of a wrench or ratchet handle which is nearly mandatory with this set. I strongly advise investing in one of these extenders unless you are uncommonly strong. A few important tools are missing, such as deep sockets in 18mm or 19mm. There are small sockets up to 21mm which is nice but no deep sockets past 17mm which is restrictive. Of course the socket sizes have to stop somewhere but having a deep 19mm socket would have been nice, I'd rather have that than a deep 16mm which you'll never use. A 15mm wrench would have been nice, that's an often used size. 17mm wrench also would have been nice. You mainly need 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm and 17mm. This kit is missing 15 and 17mm. But those wrenches would probably be so small anyway they would almost be unusable for actually breaking loose a bolt of that size. SAE sockets are almost obsolete, more and more manufacturers are going to metric exclusively. If they offered a smaller more comprehensive set with exclusively metric sockets and wrenches I would have preferred that. Screw drivers are nice and comprehensive. No complaints. channel locks, adjustable and "needle nose" are all good quality and all labeled with "Crescent". The adjustable wrench in particular seems to be of a very nice quality. Hence the moniker "Crescent wrench" these guys have been making these things for a long time and they are good quality. There are even markings which will tell you the size of the bolt by how open the jaws are. A good tool and nice feature. Needle nose are a bit too big for my liking, one large and one very small needle nose would have been better I think. I see some reviews saying the adjustable wrench, needle nose and channel locks are poor quality and not labeled with Crescent. That was not the case with my set, each tool had the label "Crescent" and appeared to me to be a relatively good quality tool. Allen wrenches are standard, not great but they're there if you need them. Larger size allens probably not included. The case I actually liked. These plastic socket cases have been around for awhile now and most people, like me, aren't big fans of them. This case is better than some. The sockets are difficult to get out, I usually do what everyone else does and use the flat head screwdriver to pry them out. They press back into place pretty easily. I didn't notice the tools or sockets falling out or becoming loose during transport of the case. Though if the set is bouncing around in the bed of the truck that may occur. The case setup is different being shaped kind of like a suitcase. I liked this it made the case easier to carry. There are no sliding plastic drawers which are super difficult to slide out and frustrating. Instead it's a swinging door type setup. The tool case probably weighs ~20lbs or so. Manageable but your arm will get tired if you have to carry this case long distances. Case is somewhat sizable, too big to slip under a seat in a vehicle for instance. Overall a good tool set, I'd recommend it. Understand the wrenches and ratchets are short in length meaning stubborn rusted or high torque bolts will be difficult or maybe impossible to remove with this tool set alone. Other than that limitation a great tool set for the average DIYer or hobbyist. If you work as a professional mechanic not a great set for you, spend more to get more. Cheers EDIT: The set does include a 15mm wrench. I mistakenly stated it did not. 15mm is the largest "box end" wrench included in Metric. Metric wrenches 8 through 15 skipping 11. SAE 5/16" to 5/8". The 15mm and 5/8" wrenches are both reasonable size. But all the box end wrenches are a little small even by brick and mortar socket/tool set standards. FWIW The ratchets are not uncommonly small they are about average for what you usually get in these tool sets. Also there is a 3/4" deep socket which is effectively the same size and could be used interchangeably with a 19mm deep socket, in a pinch. Overall a better and more comprehensive tool set than perhaps I first gave it credit for. The screwdrivers included are particularly nice imo. They don't appear to be really great quality but the quantity is nice. You're not likely to come across a screw type connection without the corresponding bit. There are two (four total, five including the interchangeable driver) fixed magnetic head, large/small phillips and flat head screw drivers and one "interchangeable" large size screwdriver with a good collection of bits and an adapter to use 1/4" sockets. A nicer set imo than my review first gave it credit for. Basically all the tools do have a slight air of cheapness but it is after all a relatively cheap set. There are cheaper tools out there imo and I don't expect anything would actually break if used correctly. The sockets most likely wont hold up to a snap on 1/2" air hammer on a monster air compressor, and the ratchets might not survive a 250lb mechanic standing on them to crack loose a nut but if we're being reasonable and using the tools as designed, they should last perhaps for a lifetime. The box mine came in said MADE IN TAIWAN I've revised my review to 5 stars. I would rate this set about 4.5 or 4.75 out of 5 stars. My only complaint is the box end wrenches are a little small even by cheapo tool standards, and I do wish the ratchets were longer. But the ratchets are about the size of any average ratchet included in these tools sets. Thanks for reading.

Great tool set for basic mechanic work around cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and home. Quality is pretty good, no issue with occasional use after 4 years. The price has gone up substantially since then though.

Great multi-tool set
Great multi-tool set, has most of what you would need for carrying out a variety of tasks. This is my second crescent tool set, first which I purchased years ago. I would say the items look to be of decent quality. Overall the tool selection is an improvement over the prior tool set I own. Only slight complained is that certain items you can't remove easily with your fingers, instead have to use another tool to pry them out. Not necessarily a bad thing as this means items will snap and stay in place longer over the lifetime of the product.
