Amazing true story, literary brilliance, fantastic Urdu translation, Captivating history & poetry !
Its an amazing amazing book...marvellous, unparalled literary account, which elaborates scenes so vividly that one feels a movie is running through your eyes. Until I read this book, I never knew that even colours, textures, fragrances and feelings could be described through imagery of words! One gets a glimpse of the languages, mannerisms, poetry, art, culture and the tehjeeb prevalent in the 1800s. The elaborate and real account of lifestyle of the Nawabs, Nobels, British and commoners makes it a unique piece of history. Elaborate descriptions of life in Kashmir, Rajasthan, Punjab, UP and of course Delhi enriches the reader. Description of old Delhi is so vivid and lively that one feels that he is actually living in the streets of Chandni Chowk and Kashmiri gate, in that era.All this is over-ridden on a mesmerizingly brilliant (true) story. The language is enchanting, as Urdu is delicately translated to Hindi, but maintains its original flair and poise, retaining the pleasure of Urdu.I don't exactly know, if its best point was the story, literary brilliance, Urdu, history or poetry !A must read.
