A fine and useful disk mounting kit for a Mac Mini - yes Fits Late 2014
So, lots of people saying this and that about tertiary stuff. Here's the skinny on THIS KIT - these are for people who are actually buying and installing and have real questions.1. Know your terminology. "Upper Drive Bay" in a Mac Mini means something. Upper drive bay is the drive closest to the top of the Mac Mini. The "top" of a Mac Mini is the side with the Apple Logo. The drive closest to the black plastic cover is the LOWER bay. O.K? Got it? You're welcomeThis is the UPPER DRIVE BAY KIT for a Mac Mini, Late 2012 and Late 2014 style. Any Mac Mini that conforms to the Late 2012 style two drive caddy can use this.2. Yes, this fits Late 2012 Upper Drive Bays and Late 2014 Upper Drive Bays.3. Yes, this works ONLY with 2.5" form factor HDD, whether they are Solid State or Spinning Disc drives. NO, you cannot you use it to mount a non 2.5" form factor SSD (stick or card type drive)4. Terminology matters. When it comes to internal computer hard drives in Mac Minis, there are SSD that are stick/card type, and there are SSD that are 2.5" form factor (same shape and size as a 2.5" HDD (spinning disc drive). Don't call every SSD merely an SSD. Identify the exact FORM FACTOR for the drive you wish to install BEFORE you buy any mounting kit. THIS KIT IS FOR A 2.5" form factor HDD or SSD. IT IS NOT FOR ANY OTHER KIND, OR FOR THE LOWER BAY. IT WON'T WORK IN YOUR WINDOWS MACHINE, YOU CAN'T RETROFIT IT TO YOUR AMIGA, etc. :-)5. No this kit does not include a security style Torx T6. This means it will NOT remove the six security style Torx fasteners on a Late 2014 Mac Mini Antenna cover. (The metal thing under the black plastic snap off bottom disc) Get your security style T6 somewhere else. They are all over Amazon, cheap. A "security style" Torx has a small indentation in the tip of the bit to accommodate the standing stud in the center of the Torx profile on the screws holding your cover on. YOU MUST HAVE A T6 Security Bit for a stock unmodified late 2014 Mac Mini cover removal. The internals are standard, however.6. No this kit does not include the SATA cable lockdown cover and tiny T6 screws to hold the same in place. Your upper drive SATA cable will snap on just fine and work just fine, but it is at slight risk to pop off under sudden jarring drops, etc. Your call. It will work either way. Mine is working just fine without a security cover in the computer I am using to type this review, which is a late 2014 Mac Mini with a stick type SSD in the lower bay and a 2.5" form factor SSD (Mercury Extreme, from OWC) in the upper bay.7. Make sure you get your HDD mounting screws in the right places. This kit has two of each type. Two with heads two hex set screw type. The longer headless hex type screws go on the side closest to the back of the machine. If you don't put them there, the drive caddy will not slip all the way back into its correct position. If yours isn't going in, check these screws. The heads will butt up against the aluminum case, preventing full drive caddy engagement. Just a little tip to save you some time there. Don't force it. You can't. Get the right screws in the right place and get them screwed all the way in.That's about it. Kit works fine. Removal tool work as it should. The spudger is pretty decent. the Torx/hex combo wrenches went in my stash of oddball hex wrenches. I used my pro tools to do this install. You can finish this swap in no more than 15 minutes if you have ever done one. I recommend that you watch the OWC video. It is the best. Very methodical and vanilla, which is PERFECT for this kind of an install. (as opposed to guys and gals who are trying to be cool and cute, and waste 20 minutes of your time to get to a detail that consumes about 5 seconds of screen time!)

Good HD Cable Replacement For Late 2014 Mac Mini
I was replacing the hard drive on a late 2014 mac mini and the original hd connector fell apart. After doing a little bit of searching I came across this one. About the only slight negative here is that the end of the cable where it terminates to the board isn't pre folded like the original. This makes it a little cumbersome to connect at first but after you get it articulated properly it works just fine.It also comes with a nice set of tools and some space screws which you may or may not need. In particular, the motherboard removal tool is helpful as prior to this I had to use two very slim allen wrenches to remove the mainboard.Good replacement part and tools overall. Recommended for anyone trying to revive an otherwise good late 2014 mac mini.

Incorrect, and broken.
Item arrived in an bubble mailer. Inside, the Rinbers Factory Direct static bag is visibly damaged. The product looks to be double-bagged. Good idea, but whatever happened here, the double-bagging did not save it. Both bags were littered with puncture/scrape/tears. Inside, the single spudger tool is in 5 pieces (plus shards), and the drive connector is crushed, twisted, separated. The ZIF connector is destroyed. One of the grub screws is missing.Unusable.

My 2014 Mac Mini likes this cable
I bought a late 2014 Mac Mini and it only came with a flash ssd. I purchased and installed this Rinbers drive flex cable and now have a second ssd in my Mac Mini that runs with no problems.

Perfect!
What a great kit at a great price! All the stuff needed to get the job done, including the tool to get the logic board out. That silly (but absolutely necessary) tool goes for $5 otherwise. You really do need this, I tried using 2 screwdrivers on one in the past and broke things.Everything fits perfectly and really adds value to older Mac minis combined with an SSD and a second disk for storage.Love it!
