Q: Why do people complain about the lack of instructions when there is a user manual on this page labeled "user manual" under product description?

User manual is online and easy to print. Also its pretty easy to figure out how to use it. If I can figure it out , anyone can. Today's smartphones are harder to figure out. Also, YouTube is very helpful.

Q: Does the 4cv have a memory card slot for storing data? The specifications on Garmin state it can map up to 2 million acres with 1' contours?

No it does not. The internal memory stores the contours. The Vivid 4cv and Vivid 5cv do not have Wifi and Active captain. The 7" and 9" do.

Q: Do you need a battery to run this device or do you charge it before hand? and or does it come with an outlet charger?

It needs to be wired into a 12 volt battery.

Q: Does it have gps to find way back to dock

The unit employs tracks. Meaning if you selected in the menu option it will track your progress throughout the day.so if you merely follow your track back to your origin it will take you back to the dock. You can also create waypoints that you can navigate to. So if you created a waypoint and named it dock you could simply use the unit to make your way back to the dock .
