The Birthday Box (Leslie Patricelli Board Books)

I purchased this for my little one's first birthday. He loves this book and so do I. The story is exactly what a toddler does for their first few celebrations. Why play with the toy inside when the box is so fun? It shows what a child's imagination can create without needing any tech, screens or batteries. The book is simple so it is easy for even a small child to sit through and enjoy. I think I probably read this a few times a day for two months before he moved onto the next book (Quiet, Loud). I love Leslie Patricelli's books and have not come across one that I or my little one has not enjoyed. I would buy this again and again.

I love this little character and this particular book has become a favorite to give as a gift to those expecting a baby. We still love reading this book every year on our birthdays.

My daughter absolutely loves these books. This one was super cute as well, and my only recommendation would be for this book to have the pictures with words at the end (like "Boo", "Fa La La", and "Yummy, Yucky" have) because it gives my daughter the opportunity to repeat after me and expand her vocabulary - she's 19 months. Other than that, this is a great book to purchase for 0-3 year olds. Short enough to hold their attention, but entertaining!

We love Leslie Patricelli and her "Bebe" books, as my kids call them. For years we have checked them out of the library, but they have been so loved that I have started to purchase them for my house. The illustrations are simple and cute. Some have very simple text that teaches opposites, yummy verses yucky, etc., and some are little stories, like this one. The baby gets a box for his birthday. He/she opens it up and finds a stuffed dog. Then he/she spends the book creating all these adventures with the box (as kids do), and ends with how lucky he/she was to get a box for his/her birthday. Cute little story that I do not mind reading over and over again. I would definitely recommend!

My bookworm toddler has fallen in love with this story! Her birthday is coming up, and I thought this would make a nice segue into opening presents and using imagination. I liked that the baby in the story is enchanted with the box, instead of what's in the box itself! Very much like a toddler. My little girl likes the part when the baby and his present have a snack inside the box (after all, it IS his birthday). A must-read for all little ones who are having a birthday coming up. The simple text (not too long, a few sentences per page) and simple, cozy illustrations make this a perfect read-aloud book for little ones...mine wants to read it over and over....to the point where she fell asleep with the book in her hands!

This book arrived in time for our 3yo's birthday. He opened his gift and immediately began going through it, demanding we read it. It has been about two weeks and he has it memorized and easily quotes it. We own almost all of Leslie Patricelli's books. We recommend them and plan on saving them for future generations.

It’s okay. I bought this as a birthday gift. I thought it’ll pair nicely with a big brown cardboard box LOL. I did not end up doing that. The book talks about using a cardboard box for imagination. The box has a dog inside so they go on adventures using the box. Love the author’s pictures. We have “Potty” and “Toot”. But this book didn’t meet my expectations.

This is a delightful little book about a kid and a box (and the wrapping paper, which appears on many pages in surprise ways!).I slightly prefer Not a Box because of its simpler sketching and box-colored pages. But this book has the added benefit of making an excellent first birthday present.

This book is probably one of the best in the Leslie Patricelli series. Cute and heartfelt. Bought it as a gift for my second-born's 1st birthday, but my 3 yr old has absorbed it into his own collection of favourite bedtime stories.

My 3 years old toddler still loves reading this book, the content of the book makes her happy!
