You have to know the closest WIFI connection in order to use it!
The translator worked beautifully when we were at home or in most areas in our hotel in Thailand, but when you're out & about, where you'll need & want to use it, you cannot unless you know all the wifi connections as that's what it does, runs off an internet connection. We just never thought about this little dilemma, we just thought it would simply bounce off the nearest hot spot, but it doesn't, you'll have to know the wifi server & password to use it. we could have saved a bunch of $ simply sticking with Google's translator, which is what we used any way!But it works just fine when you're in your living room prior to a trip on the other side of the world.

Perfect gift for my father in law
My Father in law refuses to learn English, but has issues talking to people. And is not huge on technology (We got him a separate Mp3 player instead of this phone). So needless to say, he does not use his phone (google translate). So the next best thing was this for translating. Its very simple to use and has a lot of languages. He needed it for Polish to English so its perfect.Pros:* Easy 2 button system for translating (physical buttons, not touch screen)* Easy to setup and get going for somebody who isnt big on Technology* Has the core languages most people use.* The translation is very accurate and picks up surprisingly well! (we were expecting some things to get missed)Cons* You have to be connected to wifi to get the most out of it. (Father just keeps it connected to his phones tether that we setup)Overall its worth it for the price, some of the other translators we looked at were nearing $300+ and just became not worth it when this does the same thing.

good translator device
This translator is really easy to operate. It will translate anything I talk. This translator works as advertised. I would say it is 98% accurate in its translation. The device is well built and feels very sturdy to hold and the battery last a long time. This is a very useful product, perfect for traveling. It was easy to set up and use. I like the 2.4 inch LCD screen display. It's big enough and easy to see the words and it's a touch screen so it's very convenient. The devise gives a written and verbal translation which is helpful. The sound is very clear. This is certainly a fantastic tool for traveling abroad. This translator devices come with a multi sensory two way translation device. It have 97 languages, It have a two way translator with artificial intelligence, instant translation of long sentences, fast and accurate, accuracy of 98%, reaction time in millisecond. Small and easy to use
This translator is small and light. It is easy to use, you just held down one language and speak, and the translation will sound out with the text showing in the touch screen. The voice translation can be repeated with touching screen. It does a good job in terms of translation speed and accuracy. The battery seems to hold the charge well; one full charge can last for five days in my test use with light translation task. High Recommend!

Works as advertised. I like it. Simple to setup, operate.
1. The setup is "intuitive"; reference to instructions minimal ie location of switch to turn on, volume control. Make sure that your wifi password is accurately displayed (upper left hand corner of display in small print) after you have typed it before tapping to enter that data into system. Set your primary language into menu that eventually presents itself. Mine is English.2. Talk English and device responds in French (language that I chose). First test words were: "I love you." The device responded: "Je t'aime." It worked! So far, I am impressed with this compact, less than $100 device; it is my first one.2.5 (added 5-30-19): press "up arrow" on dial, speak french and device responds in French:))3. Yes, I had two connect to wifi.

Add SIM with DATA plan so you're not limited to WI-FI
Some notes on the OUMAX unit :1). It functions well connected to Spectrum Wi-Fi.2). When I added an AT&T SIM chip, it did NOT function with only 3G , BUT the reason for thatturned out to be that the AT&T salesperson did not give me a prepaid DATA plan. When I upgraded( to $35 a month including 1Gig of DATA ), 3G now works as well as Wi-Fi.3). My spoken Mandarin (about 600 words currently) is usually understood by native Zhonguoren, butNOT by the OUMAX. The other way from spoken English is 70 - 80% acccurate ( when matchingcharacters one by one in Google Translate and MDBG.net ) That's not too bad, so I'm reasonablysatisfied and will continue with it.4). The unit I got defaults to English - Chinese on every power on. ( My Google Translate throughFirefox on Windows7 defaults to Africans ). Chinese happens to be the primary translation I purchasedthis for, but I was confused and upset that I only saw 10 language choices, ( not 38 ! ) An emailto OUMAX was replied a few days later with clear instructions to get the other languages . . . yousimply TAP the language you want to change ( in conversation mode ) and the full list appears.Like a lot of technology involving software, it is easy to rush to judgment that it doesn't meetyour needs. Now I'm glad I got it to have as a dedicated portable translating assistant.

Handheld magical language device!
Very useful device! Not sure if I could just use a cell phone app, but this may be a keeper. I like the ability to quickly go between one another and get verbalized translations. Photo of foreign language translation is great feature. Lightweight, uses WiFi m, can hook into cell phone hotspot, tons of languages. Screen is small. I'm using it to help me learn Portuguese by Ictober, but know it will be very useful on my trip. Will give me more of a sense of ease with communication while in Brazil as English is not known and spoken there as when ine travels to Europe, et al.
