Great value for the money
The good: It works great with 3 TVs (Samsung, Phillips, and TLC) in the house and several input devices I have tried. Most of these other TVs are on the end of 50' HDMI cables so that is a challenging setup, but it works reliably and without delays or artifacts of any kind. I have used a couple of different HDMI input selectors and splitters prior to this and they had issues just often enough to make them really annoying. This matrix switch has been absolutely consistent and reliable after several months of use.The bad: It doesn't work with one very cheap AOC 27" TV that I have. However, if I had to chose between the AOC TV and this matrix switch I would keep the matrix switch and replace the AOC TV with something compatible. In my case the AOC TV isn't that important anyway.

Monoprice 4x2 Matrix HDMI Powered Mini Switch
It is easy too hook up. Works Ok. I wish the lights were not so bright and that it had a turn off switch. I only cost $39 plus change on the Monoprice site.. They are out of stock. May add comments later after further use. At first I gave it four stars (that was on replacement). It only worked for two days ; therefore I now give it one star.

Poor IR remote and unusable serial control makes this a frustrating product.
This an affordable HDMI matrix. It has a feature that able you to remotely control and power it via serial port. That feature does not work as expected. I paired this with the StarTech.com PEX2S952PW. I was not able to power it via the serial port. I verified that the voltage is being delivered in the correct pins by using a multimeter. Also, remote control via serial (Windows) is very buggy. The included software cannot be installed in Windows 7. The matrix does not respond well with third-party serial software, either.I'm currently using it with the included IR remote, which is hardly responsive at best. Once the matrix detects a loss of signal in one of its inputs (the input source turns off for example) it automatically switches to an input that has a signal. There is no way to disable this feature. Paired with the IR remote makes this device unpredictable and difficult to use.

Great price, gets the job done
In the world of matrix switches, this one is very affordable, especially for a 4x4 - any 4 inputs to any 4 outputs. It does what it needs to do, but it isn't the most convenient. Like other reviewers said, when you switch one input/output, it causes all of the connected display devices to go blank for a few seconds then come back on. I also found out the hard way that it will not work with interlaced signals. My projector is an older HD (1080i) unit, and it would not display. I finally figured out that if I brought it down to 720P it worked just fine. Luckily in my case, 720P on a projector looks as good or better than 1080i, so it wasn't a huge deal. I'm sure it would have worked just fine had it been a 1080P projector. I also have not had the best luck with the auto switching. Overall though, I really like the flexibility the switch gives me, and now that I have my kids trained on how to use it, it really ups the convenience!

I assumed it was a bad cable. Nope
EDIT - READ MY ADDENDUM FOLLOWING THE ORIGINAL REVIEW.1 star out of 5 - I buy A LOT of Monoprice stuff. All the cabling in my HT, my "man cave" and my Honda Accord video system is Monoprice. I have a Monoprice HDMI distribution box and two HDMI over Cat5 kits. I just purchased the HDMI Matrix Switcher to add some coolness to my man cave before football season. My main 75" display is flanked by four 32" LED sets each with their own dedicated Directv HD receiver. The four sources into the switcher I have are bottom left HD Receiver, bottom right HD Receiver, PS3 and AppleTV. The Apple TV is just temporary until I get the Wii U moved. The outputs are going to the bottom left 32", bottom right 32" and the 75" via an HdMI input on the Onkyo AVR. For some reason the switcher does not mind the 1080 signals from either directv box or the PS3 but the Apple TV will not display. Actually it has displayed a couple of times by turning the switcher on and off but it is VERY sporadic. I assumed it was a bad cable. Nope. Tried swapping the inputsand out outs around, bypassed the Onkyo to go straight to my 75". Only get consistent picture from Apple TV when the Monoprice is not in the signal chain. I'm going to try Monoprice customer support and will change my review to reflect the outcome. At this time though I can't give it a recommendation.EDITI revised my review to three starts because even though Monoprice customer support could not figure out what my issue is, it was not for lack of trying. I am sure it is a handshake issue but of the five monitors NONE of them will display the signal from this particular device. HOWEVER I can get the 32" sets to display by switching inputs ON THE TV and back to the original HDMI input and all is well. Not ideal but this kind of confirms in my mind that something is getting lost in translation during the handshake. Now I don't lay this all at the feet of Monoprice because it is my fervent opinion that HDCP sucks... BIG TIME. At the same time, there is a standard to the specs and either the switcher or Apple is not 100%. I tend to think the Apple is not at fault. Not that Apple is infallible, but the only time that device displays correctly is when the switcher is out of the signal chain. I am going to be replacing the Apple TV with a Wii U and if it does not present the same issue I am going to revise my review to five stars with the caveat that Apple TV owners may have issues. Last update forthcoming.

Not worth it. Ticking time bomb.
Unfortunately, this device didn't even get through a week. This is my third device(HDMI 4 x 4) from monoprice. The first device died after 2.5 years and the second one after just one year. The third one didn't work well from the start. All the TVs would be pink. If you unplugged the HDMI and put it back in it would correct the problem. After an hour of watching the TV, the screen would phase out(become black) and it would come back on after 3-5 seconds. The problem would come back after 1-2 min and the loop would increase in frequency. Seriously, I'm going to look for another brand. I like my other products from monoprice but just not this one.

Well crafted piece of kit, just be aware of switching delay
Works as expected although not as fast as I had thought it might. I have nothing to compare it to, so rating it less than 5 would be unfair, however you should know there is a SEVERAL SECOND DELAY (~3 to 5 seconds) when you change inputs to an output, during which time the target screen will be black an muted. If you switch a single input to be displayed to multiple outputs, then ALL of the screens currently/already displaying that input will also go black during that switching period. For our needs - no big deal. However, if you need dynamic / rapid / seemless "Minority Report" style source switching without affecting other outputs, you may want to test this first or look for something else. Keep in mind this is a SOLID piece of equipment, appears WELL crafted and works perfectly - for a FRACTION of the price of other matrix switchers. Price/Quality/Service - pick any two. Enjoy.

i was able to connect this to my harmony remote elite easily. it is also rack mountable if you buy the ears separately. also you can pass through the ir remote signals perfect if you are using non-smart tv's with you system.
