Good epilator- Plan for mild pain, take care to reduce discomfort!
First, it should be noted that this is an epilator, and it should be reviewed for the job it does as an epilator. It is not pain-free and that is just about beside the point regarding the product. The product itself functions just fine and therefore gets 5 stars for price, quality, and job done. This product does exactly what an epilator should do- it rips your hair out by the root. It tweezes, in large handfuls, copious amounts of hair. If you've tweezed your eyebrows, you know what it feels like. If you've had a tattoo, it can be mildly compared to that. It's less painful that a tattoo, more painful than tweezing one at a time. It'd be laborious to try to tweeze all of your leg hair anyway. I have never waxed so I can't compare the pain to that. Here's some hints, tips and tricks I've found that make this product worth the purchase: 1st, grow the hair out past the course, stubbly stage. The tool needs something to grip onto to rip the hair out. For me, my leg hair is prickly for like a week while its growing in after shaving. I waited about 3-4 weeks knowing I'd be buying this for it to grow out. I feel like that was a good move and I'll elaborate in my 4th point. 2nd- Have an ibuprofen and a glass of wine about an hour before you know you're going to epilate. I like to get to that warm, tingly feeling that alcohol provides and the iburprofen reduces swelling. You will feel less pain. 3rd- Once you get going, it gets easier. The first few minutes are filled with expletives and FML's. I think once the skin becomes puffy and you become used to the sensation (and wine), it's like not terrible at all. My second leg went far better than my first. 4th- You will probably not epilate your underarms because that would hurt like a mother. And, I don't know about you, but I'm unwilling to let my underarm hair grow for more than two days max before I'm very uncomfortable. 5th- Your bikini area. You may be OK with doing inner thighs, pelvic region... but beyond that, God bless you if you try. 6th- Your lady beard. You may be wondering if the hairs on your chin will ever pluck themselves or if you should leave them alone or if anyone notices them or why in God's name are you developing a lady beard. Fear not, you can epilate the neck/chin area with similar discomfort as the legs. I have not ventured to the upper lip, myself, but I think if you took a shot of whiskey and closed your eyes, it could be done. 7th- Have toner/witch hazel/aloe vera on hand for after. I use Thayers, and I put it in the fridge, apply liberally afterwards and it does reduce swelling and irritation. I did not have any ingrown hairs from using the epilator, and I think I credit this to the toner. I was a little worried at how red and irritated my legs were before I went to bed (and my bikini region), but I woke up and all was perfect the next morning. Epilate in peace, my hairy lady friends!

Better results and cheaper than a wax
I bought this epilator to deal with the 9 weeks of quarantine hair growth. I hate shaving and would have to do it twice a day if I wanted to remain without stubble as my hair grows quickly, is dark, and relatively thick. I've done professional waxing in the past, but that gets expensive as well as being inconvenient. This product cost less than the price of one wax session, so I figured I would give it a try. I did not use any of the recommended preparations (no exfoliation, no hot shower first, no wine) and just decided to see how bad it would be. I made it through both my arm pits and both legs without tears or swearing. It definitely is painful, but not any worse than a wax. I don't recommend letting your hair grow out for 9 weeks. I had to shut it off and clean it a few times during the process due to the long hairs getting trapped in the roller. The included brush took care of it quickly. Trimming it first would have been a smart move. That, however, was user error. I found it to work very well. Both my pits and legs were smoother than any wax I've ever had - no little hairs left behind to tweeze/shave, no abrasions or irritated skin, and it took less time than a wax. I did have quite a few "pinprick" blood spots. The light was very helpful to see places like behind the knees. Overall I am quite happy with this purchase.

I like that the hair grows back a lot slower than ...
My first epilator, ever. I like that the hair grows back a lot slower than with shaving. Plus it's softer- I find I'm not driven crazy by the prickly hairs like I was when I forgot to shave for a day. I purchased an epilator because, like I said, I have to shave daily and I HATED it. Razors are expensive and so is shaving cream (so are epilators, but they, at least, last a long time). I figured epilating would be more efficient and better in the long run. It did hurt at first, but now, 8 months after my first session, it doesn't really hurt at all (taking a painkiller does help, though). PROS: -nice color -corded; can't run out of battery -the massage/efficiency cap is nice for beginners -does as promised; removes hairs form the root CONS: -takes A LONG TIME. I epilate my legs and armpits once a week and my shortest time so far is ~45 minutes. From what I've gathered, that's a pretty long time for epilation. This model has a small head and only 20 tweezers, so I get why it takes so long, but it is kind of annoying. I'm upgrading to another model mostly because of the time consumption. If you only want to do armpits or other small areas with this, go for it. Otherwise, be aware that it'll take a while to finish the job. -LOUD. Like really annoyingly so. I live with 5 other people in a college suite and I have to wait for all of them to be gone to do this to avoid them being irritated by the noise. It's not at all subtle, so skip this if that's a concern for you. -can break hairs if you move it too fast Overall, it's a good first epilator. It gets the job done. But I wouldn't use it on big areas- it just takes way too long.

Good results in underarms
I have used epilators countless years. The very first one was a Braun Silk-epil, too. The latest I've had has been a Remington, but after many years, it just stopped working. I was looking for something simple and not expensive because the last few years I use it exclusively in my underarms. I am very happy I got this Braun epilator. The things I like: - Small and comfortable - 2 speeds - Removable rollers was a must, because I think without the rollers, it can help pull very very small hair in the underarms - Removable head for cleaning - Excellent results, very smooth skin! Much better than the Remington - Made in Germany (the machine is made in Germany; the cord in China) - Good price for what I need I haven't tried it on my legs so I can't speak for that. Also, it's important to know (based on reviews I've seen) that this is not meant for your face. The manual clearly says it's for your legs, underarms and bikini area. As for pain, again I've used these for years, so I feel the pulling, but not pain. When I started doing the underarms many years ago, first I got them waxed and then I started using an epilator (Braun also) very often as the hair was growing back to get used to it. That way I think is easier to start. Trying to use this on underarms that have been shaved for years would be way too painful, in my humble opinion. It doesn't come with a pouch, but it is small enough to fit in any small pouch. I'll be reusing the one from my old epilator. This machine cannot go underwater, not even the head for cleaning. It comes with a small brush to clean and the head is completely removable for that purpose. Most importantly the results in the underarms is really good. I'm very happy with the purchase, and I am happy to buy products made in Europe and not China.

Completely painless
Why did I buy it? I wanted to buy a Silk Epil Epilator without spending an arm and a leg. Does it work? After reading a few reviews for this product, I was afraid it could be to painful to use, but after using it I suspect that whoever wrote those reviews is either using the epilator for body parts where it's not supposed to be used, or they have never used a Silk Epil before. This product is very gentle on the skin and the massaging rollers do a great job at alleviating the pain, which is almost nonexistent. I also really liked the included light: at first I thought it was a useless addition, but after using it I realized how many hairs I would have missed without it. Pros: - Not painful at all - Useful light to spot thin hairs Cons: - It doesn't come with a case Bottom line: Don't trust the reviews saying it's painful. If you are going to use it for your legs, it will be painless, fun, and easy to use.

This thing is awesome!
I am new to the world of epilating, but this thing is awesome and I tell everyone about it! I'm soon moving to a place that's beach season year-round and I wanted to be able to be ready at any moment without feeling like a wooly mammoth. I pre-medicated the first time I used this and even with that, it still hurt ridiculously bad- getting my leg hairs wasn't so terrible, but I may have cried a little while epilating my armpits and bikini line. I thought I was going to die and didn't know how anyone used this for anything other than their legs. But with faith in other reviewers, I tried again...and it was SO much better. It definitely stings a bit on my thighs and takes some witty maneuvering over my shins, but it's extremely satisfying to be able to get all the hairs out! The bikini line still kills, but I just try to focus on all the $$ I'm saving by not waxing and I muster up the courage to press on. My hairs don't noticeably grow back for at least a week. I can't imagine going back to shaving. Also, I couldn't imagine epilating without the light that's on this! You should try this thing out.

Meh.
I bought this product mostly to use on my face. At the beginning it worked pretty well, but I feel like now, instead of taking the root out along with the hair, it just rips the hair and breaks it in half so that the root is still in your skin. And its starting to irritate my skin, leaving bumps. Anyway, it was alright at the beginning (however it would never charge, it would only work if it were plugged in) I used it for my legs and face (pretty painful on the legs, not going to lie. I'm used to waxing/plucking my face so that wasn't too bad.) and its good if you are in a hurry or something and don't have time to wax/pluck/whatever, but not great for actually getting the results I wanted.

Just grit your teeth through the first use... a glass of wine helps, too
I am a woman who had to shave every day for smooth legs. If I got chill bumps soon after a shower, I may as well have not even wasted my time because the hair would all grow right back. It is now January 9 and I have shaved exactly 1 time since this baby was dropped off by Amazon about two weeks before Christmas. (And that was because I wanted to wear a skirt to work and had plans to epilate that night). I've used the epilator 4 times. It's still not completely pain free, but much more bearable. I definitely recommend this product, but go in with clear expectations. I've had my legs waxed and threaded, so I knew it wouldn't be easy. Last time I was waxed the hair was "almost long enough" and we decided to go for it. A lot of pain (and 80 bucks) for so-so results. I decided to try a different route. We're planning a Caribbean cruise in the spring and I don't want to have to worry about shaving in the tiny shower or side effects of salt water. I figured the epilator was a small enough investment that it was worth a try. Let me be honest here - this is not pain free hair removal. Even after a hot shower (and yes, some wine) there were areas that felt more like my skin was being peeled away than a bunch of tiny tweezers doing their thing. However, I kept the epilator moving and made it through. The first time, it took me about 45 minutes per leg - of that hour and a half, probably 10 minutes was truly painful, but obviously not unbearable - just not at the top of my list for a fun way to spend Saturday night. Also of note - your legs will not be perfectly smooth. YET. Hair grows in stages, so while you may have a ton of tiny, snatched out leg hairs littering the top of your toilet seat and bathroom floor, there's another round of follicles pushing out new, minute hairs that aren't long enough for the tweezers to grab yet, but they are long enough to make your legs feel prickly. Depending on how fast your hair grows, three to five days later, go for another round (of epilating + wine). It won't hurt as bad, but it's not exactly a massage, either. Repeat again in three to five days. Be sure to exfoliate before and after to prevent ingrown hairs and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
