Great for 2nd grade reader!
My 8-year-old is obsessed with robots, but somewhat less enthusiastic about reading. These books were something that he actually wanted to sit down and read. The chapters are short with frequent small pictures that helped hold his attention. And if he was struggling to focus, the short chapter length made it easy to break off and pick up later. Initially my boy wanted a book about a boy robot, but as a parent I really liked that the robot was a girl to diversify his reading material just a bit. This was a good reading level for him also. There were a couple words here and there that he struggled with, but the majority of the book had familiar vocabulary. And to get to the point, the book was interesting for me! I liked listening to him read because the story was engaging enough to capture my attention and wonder what would happen with Roz next.

Marvelous Read-Aloud
This book was recommended to me by other 3rd grade teachers. I was skeptical about the story line but I found it compelling, funny, exciting, and very well written. The illustrations add to the story. We loved to do much we had to start the 2nd book right away. I think this is a must read!

Fantastic!
I have read these books to my second grade students and they loved the story. They followed the adventures of Roz from the island to the farm. They did not like it when we had to stop reading for other lessons. I also enjoyed the way the story was written. Peter Brown did a great job of telling a story and drawing the reader into Roz's world and experiences the emotions Roz learned to experience, even though she was a robot who should not have experienced emotions. I would recommend these books to anyone looking for a fantastically written story.

YASSS!!
Great book for kids aged 7-10, espousing the wonder of nature which turns even a tin box robot into a motherly figure. Our son loves it, and we gave him 'The Wild Robot Escapes' (sequel by same author), for Christmas. Great Chapter book--short enough chapters to be able to choose good stopping points at bedtime, etc. Very well written. Highly recommended. Rare find.

My kids love these books
We rarely ever buy books, but we have such a hard time finding an available copy through our library I went ahead and grabbed the set. My seven and five year old loved these and ask to have them read often. Extremely well written and would appeal to older kids as well. If your child is more sensitive you may want to preview first - there are occasional instances where animals die, presented in a circle-of-life kind of way.

nothing but praise!
The Wild Robot series is by far the best recently written chapter books for kids that I've come across. We've listened to the audio and read the books, and love them both. I try to do the voices when I read it and sometimes we talk like Roz just for fun. The characters feel like part of our family and we both got very involved with the stories.

4th Grade Reluctant Reader Gives Wild Robot Seal of Approval
Our reluctant reader younger son, a 4th grader, loves The Wild Robot. He's halfway through and is already saying he's looking forward to the second book. We timed it just right, too... they're learning about habitats and ecology in school right now. So we discuss how The wild robot is trying to fit into this new habitat (and application of other vocabulary words). All in all, it's a great book. Highly recommended! (For reference, he read Crenshaw and The One and Only Ivan just before this one, and liked them both... but loves this one.)
