Nimbie USB 3.0 Blu-ray/CD/DVD AutoLoader NB21-BR

Considering how much time this beloved machine has saved me, posting a review is long overdue, so here goes. Initially, I had a huge problem where every single disc was rejected by the Nimbie when using Batchripper and AccurateRip - two parts of the dBPoweramp software suite I purchased to use with this machine. Other software worked fine with the Nimbie but everything else I tried lacked several features I really needed, so I was bent on solving the rejection problem. The mysterious 100% rejection rate happened when I first purchased the Nimbie machine about 9 months ago. Don't worry though. The story has a happy ending. :) Executive summary: * I love this machine (and software) combination. I highly recommend both.* For a more detailed explanation of the ups and downs of my experience, keep reading. As mentioned, my problem got resolved perfectly and was well worth the effort in the end. First, I have to say the guys who make the Nimbie were incredibly helpful. Like me, they stubbornly kept at it until we found the cause of and the solution to the reject rate. I highly recommend their auto-loader and their company because they seriously bent over backward to solve this bizarre behavior. They even trusted me enough to send a second machine to use for testing, which I promptly returned to them once we solved it. I'm very thankful for their awesome service and support. I think it was helpful that I wasn't belligerent or accusatory when I contacted them. In my long life, I learned to try my best to avoid taking my frustrations out on the people I'm asking for help. When you are abusive, folks (understandably) lose their desire to help you. You get back what you give in life. Anyway, it turned out that the dbPoweramp installation routine for the Nimbie configuration files was installing old configuration files for the Nimbie which did not match the current version of dBpoweramp. The Nimbie guys sent me the correct, updated configuration files and told me where to copy them. Everything immediately started working perfectly. I was then able to rip my huge collection of music CDs in a couple of days instead of weeks of sitting at my computer swapping discs into multiple optical drives. It was a breeze. I just added more discs to the hopper on the Nimbie every time I walked past the machine and it ran non-stop for a couple of days, including overnight. I have to say, this combination worked great once it was working! The Nimbie with dBPoweramp Batchripper is a really great combination that will save you huge amounts of time. Here are 5 tips: 1. Elevate the machine by placing something under the front legs and a second object under the rear legs. You want the rejection slot under the machine to be about 8 inches above the table surface so you can place the clear plastic top cover from a 100 blank disc spindle under the reject slot. This will catch all the rejects so they don't pile up and eventually slide off the table. 2. Place the same type of tall cylindrical clear plastic blank disc cover under the slot in the front of the machine for catching the completed discs. The short plastic container they include is just too small to keep the machine running non-stop and unattended. 3. Don't fill the hopper all the way to the top of the clear plastic guides. I started out filling the machine up to about 5 CDs above the clear plastic guides and it failed to load a few times due to the weight of all those CDs making it impossible for the feed mechanism to turn properly. The machine seemed to work better when I only had the hopper filled up to about 5 CDs below the top of the clear plastic guides. 4. You don't have to wait until the hopper is empty to add more CDs. I topped it off every time I walked past the machine so that it would run non-stop. To keep it running overnight, I just made sure the hopper was completely topped off right before I went to bed. By morning it was either freshly empty or almost empty and I would just fill it up again. (NOTE: The loading mechanism is noisy, so you will want to run it in a room far away from the bedroom if you are a light sleeper.) 5. Run the rejects through a CD cleaning machine, wipe them off thoroughly, then put them back in the hopper. I was able to successfully rip nearly all of the rejects by doing this. Make sure they are completely dry before putting them back in the hopper. If they are even slightly damp, they stick to the other discs in the hopper, causing a feed problem. I really can't say enough about how helpful the Nimbie guys were in solving this mystery. The dBPoweramp guys had understandably given up trying to solve it after a week or so for several reasons. First, they couldn't duplicate the problem. Second, they had double-checked their code to make sure it was right, which it was. Finally, it simply made no sense to them (or me) why this behavior would be happening. Of course, they didn't realize that their Nimbie installer was installing out of date Nimbie configuration files. I told the guys at dBPoweramp the solution we found, so they ideally should have updated their Nimbie configuration file installation with the correct Nimbie files by now. Hopefully they remember to always get updated configuration files for the Nimbie every time they make changes to dBPoweramp. The Nimbie makes Batchripper infinitely more useful. The AccurateRip software was also well worth the trouble to get working, btw. This hardware/software combination has processed over a thousand discs now with zero issues (once we solved the mysterious initial problem.) Overall, I'm very happy with my Nimbie and dBPoweramp combination. Highly recommended! The Nimbie made a labor and time intensive process quick and painless. Highly recommended! Good luck!

I bought is primarily to rip movies into the My Movies media server application and it does seem to rip reliably. However I have not been able to get it to burn properly and there is no phone or email for support on the Acronova website. I have posted twice on the forum and one on thier facebook page to no avail. Very disappointing as this is a pretty cool product, but is blemished by a total lack of support.

Great experience. Unit shipped directly from Acronova. Custom fit bubble packing was the best I've ever seen!!! Had a problem with the unit's picker. Requested an exchange. Tim at MediaSupply let me know he forwarded the issue to Calvin at Acronova. Calvin called, and, after some troubleshooting, had a replacement unit shipped the same day. Replacement unit works great. Top notch, great service!!! This thing is easier to set up than a printer. Just plug the (included) USB3.0 cable and power cord into it and it's ready to go. Install the drivers and use the software that comes with it or if you want to get the most out of it, use ImgBurn. It's very simple to queue up 50 discs before you go to bed or work. When you wake up or get home, all you need to do is label them and queue up the next 50. Great way to rip your CD or DVD collection to a hard drive so you don't risk scratching your discs every time you play them. I love mine. Oh, and it's very compact. For some reason, I thought it would be bigger. It's just barely wider than the blu-ray drive inside it. All I can say is, "Get one, you won't be disappointed!". JamesF

great product for ripping lots of dvd's and bluray. some dvd's tend to have it stick and needs a shot in the arm once in a while, but if you have 1000's of cd's/dvd's and blu-rays this does do a great job. Love the rejected tray concept, used it to help me identify what I had already in my collection .

This machine will NOT copy disks to a computer. DVD, CD, and Blu ray disks all fail at a 100% rate after an initial dozen or so copied. I've tried to copy over three hundred different disks now and ALL fail and get either rejected as "unreadable" or simply ejected as if copied. I've communicated with Acronova tech support for months and never got a reasonable response from them. In retrospect they now appear to have just been doing a delay tactic to go past the "return before" date to keep me from requesting a return label. They now are refusing to send a paid-for shipping label and give me a refund of nearly $1,000.
