How often does the water have to be changed?

It's recommended to change your water every other feeding which is about once a month. This prevents nutrients from building up in the water reservoir.

Are pods available for herbs other than those included? And how often must they be replaced?

Herbs usually have a lifespan of 4-6 months. Just make sure to never take more than 1/3 of the plant at a time so the plant can continue to grow and produce! No, it will alert you every 2 weeks to add more plant food, but that's as close as it gets. It doesn't have any screen or connectivity
