Macadamia Nuts - In shell (whole) Medium size (5 LB)

Nice snack. A little pricey but I can't get it from anywhere else.

This item is not cracked. Normally, it is cracked a little to help us crack it easily to get the Macadamia out however it is not cracked at all and It is not breakable even with a hammer. I am requesting a full return.

I know macadamia nuts. I've ordered macs for myself but mostly my macaw for over 20 years. I used to buy from Gold Crown Macadamia Assn in the Fallbrook CA area. SanMac has the Cate variety which is generally ideal because the shell is mostly thin. I've ordered probably 6 five lb bags of raw nuts over the course of a year to see what time of year they might be freshest. I've asked the sales staff multiple times if the nuts are freshly harvested and I get a response saying they've just been packed. Having just been packed doesn't mean they're fresh. I haven't gotten a bag that I could even say half are fresh. Final result: my bird rejects 80% of them, not even bothering to crack the shell. I open the nuts up to see what type of nut is inside and frequently, it's shriveled and stuck to the shell. The flavor is off from what should be buttery to too crunchy and on the bitter side. The nuts that are good are very good, but I think the old nuts get mixed in with the new which makes the cost per lb much higher if they are thrown out. I wish I could trust this company to toss the old nuts and just provide fresh ones. I'd take 80% percent fresh accounting for the reality that they all can't be good but it hasn't been my experience.

I needed a fresh saltless nut supply for one of my parrots. This item fit the bill!

I was expecting larger nuts and not shells that were very irregular in shape (halved), majority are very small. For the price, I expected better quality. My macaws are picky about their macadamia nuts-in-shell & seem to drop the irregular and smaller nuts to the bottom of their cages, much waste. The nuts on the right in attached photo are from this company, nuts on left are from my normal supplier in Hawaii, huge & beautiful. Only reason I ordered from this company was Hawaii supplier had their orchard destroyed by lava from erupting volcano. Likely won't order from this company again.

Once you know how to open macadamia nuts, buying them in a shell is a no brainer. These nuts are tasty and fresh.
