A Powerful Prescription for Healing
I discovered the work of David Hamilton, Ph.D. after watching the Heal Documentary movie. As I got to know his background and his work, I knew it was just what I needed at this juncture of my healing journey, healing the effects of paralytic polio and childhood trauma. When David put out the call for stories of healing using visualization, I responded to his query. The editors chose my story to be included in the book. David brings his knowledge from the time he worked in the pharmaceutical industry and weaves in the latest research about the mind/body connection to empower everyone to be at the top of their game. How Your Mind Can Heal Your Body is for everybody; whether someone wants to improve their sports performance or harness the power of the mind to heal from disease, illness or injury. David's compassion, warmth and wit make this an easy read. He takes complex scientific concepts and makes them easy to understand. Although I have used visualization for many years, I discovered new information and was particularly inspired by the case studies he presents with people explaining in their own words how they harnessed the power of their mind through visualization to heal from a range of diseases, illnesses and injury. David talks about the importance of using the best that all modalities have to offer and how harnessing the power of the mind through visualization can enhance so called traditional treatments. He talks about the power of love and kindness and the effect that they have on our health and well being. Conversely, he talks about the adverse affects of stress and how visualization can be a powerful antidote to the effects of stress in our lives. I am deeply honored and grateful that my healing story is included in this tenth anniversary of David's book. I purchased many copies to give as gifts to loved ones who I know will benefit from David's wisdom and the collection of wisdom from research and patients that make up How Your Mind Can Heal Your Body.

Profound, beautifully written, with love and compassion.
Amazing, lovingly written book that completely captures the essence of healing. It is written full of hope and optimism, and is written with a complete focus on helping others - especially those in vulnerable and painful situations - feel better. It is extensively and methodically researched and has an impressive evidence base - which, as a physician, I am drawn to (many people writing about healing are too quick to exploit the vulnerability that comes with pain and sickness to promise the moon, using unfounded and dubiously copyrighted techniques, for excessive sums of money and little proof of objective results). That being said -- not everything in this modality of healing can be proven with a randomized, double-blind controlled trial - and shouldn't be. The power and inspiration of subjective experience and the unexplainable must be respected by mainstream medicine, which certainly does not have all the answers to a sizeable swath of the population's ills (especially pain, chronic disease, and disability). To this end, the author's work is an invaluable and profound addition to my medical library. I applaud the author for the compassion, intelligence and sincerity he demonstrates throughout the work. I will be reading and re-reading this for many years to come, and it has helped me in my own journey.

Might work, have to try
Well, it’s worth a try. Straight ahead talk on mental techniques for any kind of ailment, illness or life threatening disease. The author is not lettered scientist, apparently, which might raise a concern that he’s not qualified to be writing on this topic, but having read so many health enhancement books by doctors and scientists, one finds these most advanced certificates interfere often with the writing. In short, experts talk too much. This author is concise and poignant, I read the entire book over one breakfast.Well, I’d say give it a go, do the visualizations, nothing to lose. Note he never suggests forgoing conventional medical treatment, only that the mind plays a strongly influential role in how the body responds to physical (and obviously also psychological) problems so you’ld be well advise to make use of it.

Excellent Read
I read and reread this book all the time because I learn something new everytime I read it. I do believe the mind is very powerful and can heal your body. I've known about visualization, but I had never heard it explained quite like Dr. Hamilton explains in his book.I actually visualized a "mini-me" going inside my body and healing my back. I do this exercise at night when I'm already in bed. I also visualize a "mini-me" working on my blood pressure. I liken my blood pressure to a balloon with lots of air. In my visualization, there is a meter with a reading of my BP. Then I start to release some air, and I watch the meter go down to a normal reading. I try to visualize as often as I can.Let me tell you, I don't have the back pain anymore. I haven't tested my BP, but I visualize that it's normal. I will continue doing these exercises. Maybe I'll start to visualize LOVE. I visualized my promotion and got it.I think you will enjoy the book.

Helpful book for dealing with cancer
I somehow came across this book shortly after my diagnosis with Stage IIIc breast cancer. I never liked the idea of visualizing "attacking" my cancer like a war analogy, because the cancer was a part of my body. I used the ideas in this book to visualize the cancer melting away as I filled my breast/chest area with light. A few weeks into the chemo, my oncologist examined me and said, "it almost feels like the tumor is melting away!" And I said, "that's my visualization, exactly!" I'm happy to report my treatment (chemo, surgery, radiation) was successful. I just picked up this book again to recommend it to a friend, and ended up using the visualizations there to 1) fall asleep; and 2) help me lose weight. I highly recommend this wonderful book!
