Doc Watson Guitar Anthology

This is a great collection of some of Doc's best songs. The notes and tabs are true to the recorded versions, including alternate tunings, capo positions and fingerings as they were used originally. This alone is very valuable, since it can be hard to copy Doc's picking unless you know how his guitar was set up. The arrangements also include notation for another guitar or banjo as on the recorded versions so you can work out the songs with another musician just as he did. Note that this is not a "sing along" version with easy chords, and is best for the intermediate to advanced intermediate player or better. Doc Watson was an amazingly expressive musician so it takes practice to make these songs sound like they should. I work on the songs until I can play them fairly accurately at the correct speed using a metronome, and then I play along with the original recordings to develop the right accents and intonations which make the guitar sparkle. I am delighted with this book and it is challenging and very rewarding to learn to play the work of this master performer.

Did they run out of ink when they printed this book? The printing is so light as to be practically illegible.

Great selection of songs by a legend guitar player. Music piano notation and guitar tab means one thing as always. Guitar tab print needs to be bigger! If guitar tab was bigger and it was spiral bound then 5 out of 5 for sure

A must have if you're tring to learn Doc Watson songs. Accurate tab and the print is large enough to read. A great selection of songs and it even states which Albumn the tab is based off so you can (hopefully one day) play along.

Ich habe das Heft wegen dem Deep River Blues gekauft, ein toller Song, der wie alle anderen in diesem Heft in voller Länge mit Noten und Tabs notiert ist. Ein paar andere Lieder gefallen mit auch, aber es geht teils sehr ins Bluegrass Genre über, das ist nicht so sehr meine Sache ...

The transcriptions for a nice selection of tunes by Doc Watson are very accurate.

Black Mountain Rag を弾きたくて買いました。楽譜の表紙を見たら、アルバム「Doc Watson」の写真だから、当然Black Mountain Rag もこのアルバムのバージョン＝オリジナルバージョンのコピーかと思ったのですが、なんと同じだったのは１頁目だけ。２ページ目から全く違う演奏の楽譜。こんなバージョンがあるのか？結局、残りの演奏は２ページ目以降で使えるところと耳コピで処理しましたが、相当労力がかかったので楽譜としてはがっかりです。
