O'Neill Psycho 1.5mm Hood

I pair this with my 4:3 on colder days at ocean beach it works great. Initially I tucked it into the collar but found it caused more flushing during heavier duck dives. It's warmer than I expected for just 1.5m.

Although thinner than my standard 2 mm, this hood is very warm. Easy to get on and off. The bill is a little too thick and long so it gets pushed down and back too much. Also not a fan of the cinch string tightening above the chin rather than below.

I surf about once a week in NorCal (Santa Cruz). I tend to run cold (4-3 full suit, 3-2 booties, 2mm gloves) but needed a detached hood. I was worried the 1.5mm would not cut the mornings in 54-60 degree Pacific waters... but I was really happy to find out that it's perfect, light weight, well made, and toasty warm. I know now I was loosing a lot of heat from my head and just by adding this to the set-up I'm overall warmer everywhere. Staying out 1-2 hours typically -- of course staying moving is a factor for warmth too and no matter what, if you're just sitting for 10-15 min stretches you're gonna feel it. Also... a touch of sunlight really gets the oven going with this hood. I highly recommend it for folks like me love cold water sports but aren't polar bears by nature :)

This hood came in a worn box and had sand on it. Didn’t realize I was buying used goods!

@ only 1.5mm it works perfectly to keep your nogin warm. Wind chill is cut dramatically, fit is comfortable.

This hood does the job for me, however from the first time I used it I found that it chafes my neck when I turn my head. What I do is fold the bottom inch or two up, and the problem goes away. I'm considering cutting off the bottom of the neck neoprene.

It keeps your head warm.
