Can this control be used to directly power a rear window defroster (heat wires, big Corvette window) directly, or do I need to use a relay?

Yes, the ThermaSync defroster control can power the rear defroster as long as the current does not exceed 20 amps. The way to tell what current a defroster uses is to measure the resistance at the metal tabs on the sides of the defroster using a multimeter. Let's say the vehicle is 12 volts and the defroster resistance is 2 Ohm , Volts / Resistance gets you Amps. So in this example  12 v / 2 Ohm = 6 Amps. The 2712 TheramSync Defroster Control has three tabs on the back, Power, Ground and "H" for power to the defroster. Connect the wire coming from the H to one side of the defroster and ground the other side of the defroster using the metal tabs along the edges of the defroster. We supply tabs, connectors and a wire harness if needed. The connectors for the tabs on the ThermaSync control comes with the control.

Do i need to buy a relay for switch

No additional relays are normally needed. The 2712 ThermaSync Defroster and Heated Mirror control can power defrosters and heated mirrors. This unit is a timing relay with its own remote switch which can be mounted up to 30 inches away from the control. There are three tab connectors on the back of the units, Positive, ground and "H" which is power out to the heater. All connectors come with the control. Thank you for the question. Yes, the 2712 ThermaSync Defroster control can be used to power heated mirrors. The control has the defroster switch with an LED indicator and tactile activation button. The control automatically switches off at ten minutes just as the rear window on most vehicles. The switch can be mounted up to 30 inches away from the control. While not familiar with a Surban SEO accessory socket, to connect the control there are three pins on the back. Power, ground and the "H" pin which is the hot, power (+) out to the mirrors. Wire the "H" run to the positive side of each mirror, ground the mirriors and that is all there is to it. Normally heated mirrors are not power and ground specific.
