I grew up in a Christian home, and when I was 14 my passed away from cancer and after her passing, my dad began to neglect me and my siblings. I had gone through a lot of trauma in my teenage years and started to drift away from God. I always believed, but I hardly had any real, intimate relationship with Jesus and I was living in a deep depression and plenty of sin. I become buried in shame and I felt completely abandoned. But God. He continues to pull me out of the darkness. I hit a really low point (again) this past June, and I was so fed up with living and the thoughts in my mind that made me feel so disposable and alone. I was so tired of fighting and I just knew that all of my efforts had and would forever continue to fail me. God showed up for me during that time in ways I hadn’t felt in a long time. I started to just talk to him and I felt him reaching out to me, telling me that there’s a better way. Shortly after, I found JP through attending a life church in NY, where he was the guest speaker (via the big screen) and was talking about this book he had written. After that, I wanted to hear more and more of what this man had to say, so I followed his Insta, listened to his sermons, and ordered his book. It’s challenged my faith in so many ways. While reading it, I found that I was sitting in sins that I didn’t even realize. It’s been my guide towards finding freedom and healing. And its lessons continue to bring me closer to Jesus and further away from my sins. I also listen to his podcast weekly and it’s been so encouraging. So thank you, JP. You’ve played a huge part in my faith journey and your life has brought me closer to the only one who can save me. Needless to say, 10/10 would recommend this to anyone who is fed up with living in sin and wants to experience more of what God truly desires for your life. God bless anyone who sees this❤️ You are not alone.

Love this short examination of why we are here. Deep thinking and clearly written. A very worthy read. Take notes to ponder later and answer the chapter questions.

Best Seller?
This book has done wonderful things in our country to expose people to the idea behind the Bible and theology. Having said that, it's important to note that it falls short. The book suffers from legalism. Unintentionally so, but it is true, That the Theology of this book often mixes Old Testament commands with New Testament commands. Many denominations in the United States are guilty of this style of reasoning. The fact is the Old Testament represents a covenant between Moses, God, and the Jewish people. The New Testament represents the judgment of that covenant & The end of that covenant. That covenant is replaced with a new covenant, which is why we named this second set the New Testament. Once the new covenant is fully in place the old covenant is no longer in force. This is where the book fails. It often takes old covenant items, like tithe, And brings them into the new covenant with the force of law. If this were true, we would still have to be circumcised as well. The New Testament has much debate on this latter topic. The end of that debate is the answer is no, there is a new covenant and we are not responsible to follow the old.The confusion comes in because the Jewish Christians had to keep the Old Testament laws Until the appearance of Christ in the clouds. This is fully explained in the book of Hebrews. So there were many parts of this book where Old Testament items are brought in in such a way That they have to be rejected by those that understand the new covenant. That is where the book lets us down. It fails to make that distinction. On the positive side Rick Warren is Clearly sincere. And in areas where this one flaw is not present he is very accurate as well. It is important to understand our purpose in life. To know the purpose of life is very liberating. I only hope that those that start with this material will finish with an understanding of the concept of grace. A concept that is not entirely lost on the pages of this book. Rick understands Grace. He communicates Grace well. It is this entire book's most redeeming quality. I recommend this book, but it must be read with your eyes wide open. If you are very young Christian perhaps you can find guidance before reading this book.
