VAVOFO Outdoor Smart Plug

This product was great! The app was easy to download and link up my device to my wifi. I like that I could (if I wanted) have multiple time slots where the lights would be on. I had ours running our Christmas lights in Minnesota, so it stood up to the cold (granted 2020 was a pretty mild winter by temperature) and I had it under our front door awning, so it was pretty protected from any rain and snow. I plan to use this in the summer to control lights on our deck that need to be plugged in 8 feet below the deck using an extention cord (in the past we had to go all the way downstairs in the house to plug the lights in) so this won't just be a winter item. I thought the price was fair compared to other similar items. Overall, a wonderful product!

The media could not be loaded.  I am using this to power my projector for my nighttime Halloween display. It has a schedule function so you can program what days and times you want it to be on and off. It’s been so easy to use and it was super easy to get setup! It was such a pain last year getting up every morning to unplug my Christmas lights then resolution every night. So I purchased this Wifi outlet to use not only for my Halloween setup, but also my Christmas setup. It’s been working perfectly for weeks now! So convenient and I don’t even have to lift a finger anymore. Highly recommend. I’m going to purchase another just because I know for Christmas I use more light displays. If you’re lazy and love technology, buy this lol.

I've used mostly another brand, but was tired of over paying for these things. This one was only about $20 and works as well or better than others I have purchased for twice as much. I was concerned if it would pickup my WiFi well outside, but does perfectly in multiple locations I have tried it. You can use either the Smart Life or TuyaSmart app with it and it fully integrated with Amazon Alexa. It has two outlets and you can either control them remotely as one or control them separately. This is have one come on and off by time while the other could be set to come on at sundown and shut off at sunrise. I am likely to buy more of these.

Most switches work on 2.4 GHz and some I've purchased are smart enough to configure correctly with ORBI, but VAVOFO didn't. Once installed it works great, but the process required to install it lowered my rating to four stars. I'm delighted that the two enclosed outlets are separately addressable with Alexa.The Problem:ORBI supports both 5.0 and 2.4 GHz devices. The outdoor switch is a 2.4 GHz device and ORBI by default tries to install it as a 5.0. 2.4 is slower than 5.0, but the lower bandwidth will go further and is usually best for devices outside the home. To configure this switch I had to temporarily change ORBI into a 2.4-only network. Once I got the outdoor switch installed I reconfigured ORBI to support both speeds and everything worked fine, including the outdoor switch. I would suggest to the vendor that they re-code the firmware to eliminate this problem because I suspect ORBI isn't the only dual-band system to have this problem.How to reconfigure ORBI:1. Open a browser and go to your admin site, orbilogin.net2. Pick the "Advanced" tab at the top3. Choose "Advanced Setup"4. Choose "Wireless Settings"5. Un-click the 5GHz SSID and WMM options (the ones in the second blue box from the top).6. Click "Apply" at the top of the screen7. Configure your switch using the instructions that come with it - it should appear on your network8. After the switch has been configured turn the two options you un-clicked back on.9. Click "Apply" againThat's it.

I was initially frustrated with trying to set this up. I kept getting a "timed out" message when trying to link to wifi. My wifi has both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz channels. This smart plug will only work with 2.4. The choice between 2.4 and 5.0 was apparently the problem. When I temporarily disabled my 5.0 band the plug connected on the first try. Enabling 5.0 after connection did not affect anything. It would have been nice to have that information up front.The plug is working perfectly. This was used on an outdoor fountain. I am able to control it through Alexa. All is good.

I have knowledge on how to pair things, smart devices etc. I tried for over two hours to pair this device with no luck. Moved it right next to the router, called Amazon technical support line that said it was included with this device. Still no help. The Amazon rep sent me some garbage link to a YouTube video of some guy talking about it but not really showing how to get it linked. I downloaded the smart home app went to add the device, pushed the button for five seconds until the green blinking light was seen, put in my Wi-Fi password and hit confirm. A circle with a percentage that went from 0 to 100 started and said it was connecting. Within a couple seconds the plug itself made a loud audible click sound and turned off. That’s all that ever happened I did that about 15 or 20 times. Never got a green steady light. Now my evening is shot I am so irritated and mad, and have a headache. I’m returning this. Total waste of an afternoon!

I ordered this smart plug for our outdoor holiday lighting. We had concerns about being out of town a few days during the holidays, but our concerns went away! Our wi-fi is in the back of the house, and the smart plug had no problem with a connection. Both the app and the plug worked flawlessly. I will say that the instructions that come with it are difficult to understand, but once I figured it out, it synced with my app, and the lights came on and off to the minute that I programmed in the app. I HIGHLY recommend this product!!!!!

Just what I needed to operate my outdoor landscape lighting. I chose this product because it enables me to set up scheduling right on my iPhone with their app.I have WiFi color changing lights in a flower bed, that had to be turned on and off manually. This controller adds extra needed function to those lights, and each of the 2 outlets can run separate event programs. Besides on/off at set times, it has other timers such as dusk to dawn, and run for a set number of hours and more. A well made product and Sludge Guzzler approved.

This product, sold on an Australian site, is only available with 2 flat, parallel pins as used in North America. Why sell this in Australia?
