Great movie
Great movie. The performances were amazing & so believable. We probably all know someone who went, or is "over there" (as they refer to it in the movie) and Ben Foster's charecter is so spot on. Woody Harleson's charecter comes accross at first as a hardend war hero, and as the movie progresses we see he is really just a broken man trying to make the best of it all. His one-liners are priceless. (Mamma said they'll be days like this...) I was afraid that this movie might just make me burst into tears, but I didnt cry at all. And thats saying something. This movie is not meant to be depressing. I actually think it's the opposite. Every civillian should be required by law to see this movie. The story told in this movie made me think of how, in the past, WWII and Vietnam, it wasnt just our troops at war, America as a whole was at war. "Support the troops" was more than just a slogan. It seems like the general public view the war as a 30 second newsclip on CNN or FOX news. We forget that those boys and girls fighting over there were our classmates, played on our soccer teams, went to prom & now they are far away seeing real things that we choose to avoid talking about. Most of us are more concerned about the newest gadget or who the bachalor gave the rose to. This movie addresses that apathy, I think, and also addresses the reality of what a returned soldier goes thru. The most heart wrenching parts of the movie are when the Messengers must deliver the news to next of kin whose loved one was just killed.Great movie, definatly Oscar worthy & every American should see. I also think it should be shown in public high schools (skipping over a few naked scenes of course)

The Messenger: Powerful portrait of American military men affected by the crucible of war
This deeply felt story of the human cost of war from a modern day perspective drains the energy of the viewer from the very beginning to the end of the story. Foster and Harrelson provide very powerful and convincing roles in this heartwarming, harrowing and serious drama which at some times can be humorous, especially if you are military. The film provides a glimpse into the inner lives of the US Army's Casualty Notification Service and the families impacted by the transferring of bad news of fallen soldiers. The film is a human portrait of soldiers' friendship, grief and love which is universal throughout time. I highly recommend this to civilians and non-combatant military personnel for them to witness the cost of war to our people. The film, although not possessing vast cinematography, plays in very clear format in Blu-ray players on 1080 P screens.

Very good movie view from a Vet
Being a Navy Vet , I truly feel sorry for ARMY soldiers as I'm sure this is authentic , I have many army friends and a brother who was 7th Air cavalry lost in Nam his/their true story is immortalized in the movie WE WERE SOLDIERS actually currently available free on prime. The Deferens of our two branches is , the navy would never send personnel without extensive training and including intense phycological support and this would more than likely be done by chaplain's . one thing I can attest to and I'm positive my vet brothers would agree to , is the odd thing about being put together with somebody you initially thought was the biggest jerk you ever met and eventually strangely becoming friends and more often like brothers

Reaction to "The Messenger"
Not what we thought it'd be. The "messengers" need to be carefully chosen so that they'd be able to express respectful sympathy when they deliver news to family members that the soldier had died. And these messengers need to be better trained in these situations.

A must read for everyone. Very well written.
This book...I would love to see as a movie. I could not put it down. This was very well written by the author. The reader is taken all over the world with twists and turns that make you feel as if you are actually there. I love the characters and how the author described them in detail as if I could actually see what was happening. I was IN the book, the story. It will make you look at the world, people, yourself in a new light. The author was able to create a story that I believe has a message for all, no matter what your beliefs. I highly recommend. I recently had a friend loose someone very close to them. I purchased this book for them as a sense of comfort. They are loving it and feeling full of hope once again. Buy this book! You will not be disappointed.

Terrific Script Tells An Interesting Tale We Never Think About
Informing relatives that a family member in the armed forces has died has to be a very difficult task. This film draws a perfect picture of how those who must deliver bad news are heroes in their own right. Loved this film that lets us in to see what is required to handle the worst moments in life and death. The cast is terrific.

I reccommend it.
I liked this movie and I didn't think I would. It's not a masterpiece, but it has elements of what can serve to make a movie great. I'm not sure if it fully succeeded to depict what it must be like to break the news of a loved one's death to their family, but I believe it came very close. I also think this movie was mostly successful in its depiction of relationships...the relationship of the 2 "Messengers" to each other as well as the potential relationship of the younger messenger to the bereaved young woman who lost her husband In war.

très difficile pour ces hommes d'annoncer la mort d'un soldat ! chacun va le vivre à sa façon , Ben Foster fait une de ses meilleur performance , ne loupez pas ce film , il reste bien dans la mémoire !

Moving
I found this one to be deeply affecting and heart breaking. The credit of course definently goes to Ben Foster and Woody Harelson for their extremely believable performances. This is definently an adult movie for adults. I heard that Woody was nominated for a supporting actor academy award and I wasn't surprised. I feel that he's the most versatile actor out there. Ben Foster is always reliable as well. The movie closed on a hopeful note for Foster's character and I'd have to say that was what I was really cheering for. After being injured in battle and returning stateside he is paired with Harelson's character in having the duty to notify the next of kin of fallen soldiers. A truely draining task. Each of these scenes are handled beautifully and with expert direction. I can't recommend this enough for those looking for a potent drama.
