AO Smith Gas Control Valve 100262939 for A.O. Smith Genuine Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Part 2" Cavity Natural Thermostat

Straight forward instructions and installation was easy. Probably saved $500 by using DIY. Made in China...so we shall see with all the baggage that brings to the table. But so far so good. Next day Amazon delivery AND next day hot water !!

After a good cleaning under the burner assembly, and replacing the pilot assembly, and still not able to keep the pilot lit, I tried replacing with this valve. After being without hot water for several days, the valve arrived, only to discover during installation that the threads for the copper pilot line weren't right. Correct size, but the connector would only screw in crooked, and therefore would leak gas. It was like they had been previously cross-threaded. Amazon quickly sent out a replacement. It showed up two days later, installed without issue, and voila! It has worked flawlessly for a couple of weeks. Where I live, there is no local company that will sell you appliace parts if you're not a contractor. While same-day isn't an option, being able to purchase thid from Amazon saved me hundreds of dollars having to hire a repair person.

This gas valve was exact replacement for my existing water heater valve. Replaced it in less than 15 minutes and works perfectly. Be sure to order a gas detector as part of your fix so you can check your connections to ensure no leaks.

I really liked how prompt the seller was about answering questions so I was sure to get the right part. Reasonable price, so far its only shut off on me once. I lowered the setting between low and hot and hopefully it won't happen again. I've had the hardest time with my water heater this last year. Finally we can use the hot water and not worry about the water being cold! Perfect fit, exact part I needed. I did not DIY this installation I hired a professional to install it.

I purchased the gas control valve in December, had it installed inmid January. It failed to regulate the temperature of the water in the tank, causing it to oveheat and drip from the tube. Plumber came and said that the water was too hot, heater kept running, and that it could be a safety hazard. Amazon said that the return period was over by 2 weeks and that I should call AO Smith because it should be under warranty. AO Smith indicated that since I purchased this item from Amazon, that it is not covered by the warranty. I will be cancelling my Amazon Prime account.

I installed this yesterday, and it is working perfectly. That being said, the neck on this particular control (the part that screws into the tank) is an easy inch longer than the one it replaced. I didn't notice that because the old unit was screwed in. I decided to install it anyway. It works great, but that extra inch caused the cover not to fit correctly.
