CrayolaGlow Explosion Sand Art Scenes

It did not glow at all. Even went into a closet to look at it in pitch-black dark and could not see a gd thing. I hate that it was a such a waste of time and money. DO NOT BUY.

The sand glows really well but it can be a little messy. It's best to use it with something covering the floor or outside.

My wife bought this as the box cover made it look pretty cool and easy to do. We are both very hands-on technical with a little artistic skill as well, so we thought this would be a great activity to do as a family. We couldn't have been more wrong.As others have said, you first have to mix the sand with the glow agent, which is a frustrating chore. What concerned us most is that when we got some of the mixed sand in contact with our skin, it caused mild chemical burns. What kind of "toy" or kids craft project causes burns and major skin irritation? Getting the sand on you and everywhere within a 5' radius is inevitable with this product. The sand is also clumpy, making it nearly impossible to pour it out of the containers in any sort of controlled manner and it's nearly impossible to cover the glued areas evenly. The glow lasted maybe an hour and was weak and washed out compared to the box images.After completing our pathetic looking art work, I set up a camera with a long exposure on a tripod and took pictures, then we promptly threw the entire mess away. Nothing left now but a few photos and the mental scars of a very frustrating 2 hours. My wife and I both agreed it would have been better if this product did not glow, but just contained fine brightly colored art sand. The gluing and applying sand to the pre-printed templates was a great concept. If done with regular colored sand, the pictures would look better and could be retained. When the glowing stops, these clumpy pictures look terrible in the daylight.Save your money! Do not buy this product unless you love disappointment. Next step: Call Crayola customer service and tell them what we thought of this product.

The "sand" was clumpy, like wet sand, and even with the Activator mixed in it did not become less clumpy. Very hard to spread or sprinkle on the glue.You have to do all 8 cards at once, since the glow only lasts 4 hours max and you can't activate a little at a time.My 11 year old got this as a gift and was bored with it by the time the 3rd card was completed. She is an artistic kid and was excited by the idea, but the lame outcome of the blotchy pictures left her unimpressed and it wasn't worth the effort to continue.The sand makes a mess, which was fine and expected, but you should be aware that it will get EVERYWHERE. Our clothes and floor were covered in glowing constellations.I would not recommend this for any kid old enough to care about the outcome of their project. They are going to be disappointed when the pictures don't look anything like what is displayed on the box, but just glowing glops.And once the glow fades, you are left with nothing to display.Sad.

My son recieved this item as a gift. Knowing that this was a sand project (sand is always messy), and that it was a temporary phosforescent activity, we opted to make it a family night activity. It was great fun for all of us! The finished project wasn't fabulous, but we hardly expected it to be. The process of painting with glue in the dark and then handling the fantastiacally glowing particles of sand was truly glorious. (We did NOT find the sand at all irritating to the skin.) As we worked the sand would get on our hands and clothes and it made us laugh and share every moment of the experience with delight. The children and adults had a great time together. Afterwards, it was very easy to clean up, just by keeping the lights off long enough to wipe the table and sweep up. Imagine -- wanting to sweep in the dark! Really, we loved it. It was almost mesmerizing and extremely fun. Understand that it's messy and temporary, and just enjoy the moment. Isn't that what childhood (and life) is all about?

I don't normally take the time to write reviews about products, but this one is so bad, I had to. The directions are non existent and the sand gets all over the place. If you are mad at your sister in law and have to get a toy for your niece or nephew...get them this...!

This product may not be a good tool for sand art projects- I wouldn't know, but it sure is a fun party trick!! Made our shin dig last night oh so much fun. The dancefloor looked like the star lit sky with everyone wearing their own star field. Please Crayola, don't discontinue this product!! :)
