Jacto PJ16 Backpack Sprayer, Blue

I bought a Jacto sprayer about 15 years ago for spraying weeds, fruit trees, etc. It served me well over that time but it had two weaknesses, no lifting handle and thin shoulder straps. This made it difficult to lift up and put on. Once on it wasn't comfortable very long. It did the job well until it just recently quit pumping. I looked at their new units and others from different makers. I like the lifting handle and the padded shoulder straps. I also like the brass pump cylinder much better than the previous plastic one. I've sprayed two tankfuls with it and it works very well. The straps and handle make a sprayer that works well even a pleasure to use. I'm a mechanical engineer and I'm partial to well built machinery. I would put this sprayer in that category.

Excellent sprayer, definitely better than anything you can pick up at a local hardware store, I now have two and use almost daily for work. Did have a problem with the first (freak seal issue, couldn't get pressure) and Jacto promptly replaced the part when I informed them. Highly recommend.

The claim to fame is that this is supposed to be a no leak unit. Unfortunately that’s not the case. I would not have known if I weren’t using blue marking dye. If you fill the unit up to the advertised 4 gal the herbicide can slosh out of the top where the pump is and run down the left side of your back.

Poor design. Uncomfortable at best. Very awkward to use. Difficult to maintain an even spray pattern. The way the straps connect is comical. I’ve never laughed at something while assembling it knowing it was this bad. Hose and hose clamp supplied don’t seal to the pump so it sprays all over your back as it leaks. Also leaks from the hose connection at the handle. Going back to my $40 sprayer. This is a case where you don’t get what you pay for.
