how long will the battery last ?

I've had it running for at least 2.5 hours and there was still a charge. Have not had a chance to really run it down to see how long I can get.

Will this work as a UPS (automatically switch to battery when power cut)?

Yes. You won’t notice an interruption. You can unplug the echo mid talking and it just works.
