UTEBIT 11" Magic Arm Clamp with Super Clamp | ARRI 1/4" Thread, ARRI 3/8" Thread

There’s 3 joints, but only 1 knob for tightening them. The middle joint has teeth that lock it into a position, you can see that in one of my photos. Strangely, the other 2 swivel joints at each end are very loose until you tighten the middle joint, then they become very stiff. Seems like there’s a wire inside that pulls those joints tight? Anyway, it works! When you turn the screw tighter, those swivel joints lock solidly in place. And when you turn it counter-clockwise, the swivels do become loose again.

I use mine to hold a strobe tuner, usually on the leg of my pedal steel guitar. With the twist of a single knob, all of the joints become loose so that you can position everything freely. One turn and it is rigid enough that it has never slipped. The included clamp is of high quality and is equally easy to use. Perhaps I should have taken one star off, because the locking nut for the 1/4-20 screw is made of plastic and cracked quickly. However, 25 cents at the hardware store bought me a replacement brass nut that fixed the problem instantly. This is really a great product, solving a problem that had nagged me for years.

I really like the ability to adjust the tripod in so many ways but there are 2 issues which is why I did not give it 5 stars. First the clamp has a "circle" and I found would not stay fasten to my hand pull on the car door in a horizontal position. No biggie, used a 3/4 inch schedule 40 (the heavy grade) pvc pipe which I zip tied to my hand pull with a pad under it so it would not hurt the car and will rotate. Second, the device (a wheel) which fastens the arm to the clamp would not stay, with my 2 lb camera on it - it would keep loosening. 2 workarounds, found it I turned the arm so it was leaning toward the window, the camera weight would "tighten" the fitting. I am always changing the arm position, so put some lock tight on the threads. So far this has lasted a few days. Did not have a lock washers which would fit which would be another solution. But, I really like the unit and the ball joints on the arm do not come loose.

Best magic arm, hands down --and for the money even better than that. I have bought and used various sizes of these Utebit arms and they are simply fantastic. Good feel, good texture on the powder coat. Very good lock, super solid, no slip without needing to tighten the knob to red-face-tight. Knob is incredible: It's not that crappy round plastic one, it is a 2-wing flat and is solid aluminum. The bushing (between the knob and the tightening mechanism) is freakin' brass, yo --not nylon, it's like actual brass. The arms of the 22" version are even 15mm for 15mm clampy-type things to be, well, clamped on. As for the rest, the cold shoe parts and clamp are exactly like every other set of cold shoe parts that come with every other arm --They are fine, no problem either way. And it should be noted that these parts alone can cost as much or more the this guy. So there you go, I got mine with a "lowest price in 30 days" --But even at the non-discount price, they are just an incredible flippin' deal. You should purchase them, or many of them. I have spoken. I bought this to mount a usb camera to a monitor stand. The camera weighs about 5 ounces and is held almost vertically, so there is very little force on the joints. Despite this, the tension knob has to be hand-tightened a fair bit to prevent wobbling. Since it was plastic, I was always careful with how much force I used to tighten it. After a few months, I attempted to adjust it for perhaps the 3rd or 4th time and watched the tension knob just fall apart in my hand. It had cracked in four places while it was tightened down. It appears to have slots in the main body to allow it to snap around the nut, and broke along these weak points. The plastic knob presses against a metal nut which provides the actual tension, but now I have to use very narrow pliers to tighten or loosen it. If I was using this in the field, it would be unacceptable, but I can live with it since I might adjust it 3-4 times per year at most. I removed another star for the fact that even with the knob tight, there is a little too much play in the ball joints. It isn't a major problem for the way I use it, but with a heavier item or if attached to a mobile rig I would expect it to shift. The next time I buy a magic arm of this design, I'll try to get one that is all-metal. The clamp that comes with this one is all metal and works well.

I’m using this on a portable laptop stand to hold a second monitor. It completes my workstation with a minimal design. It’s easy to adjust, locks solidly in place, and is universal with the 1/4-20 mounting. It’s a great price and solid build. It holds my monitor in precisely the right spot.

Admittedly, I didn't look closely at the measurements and size details of this little doodad. Frankly, I half ordered it expecting that it not really work well at all. However, the material and construction of all the contents of this kit are very nice. The clamp is well machined, all the threads on everything are precise and smooth. There's more adapters for converting between 1/4 and 3/8 than you can shake a magic arm at. The one thing I'm a bit hesitant about whole-heartedly endorsing is the arm itself. Again, it seems to be made of good materials. The action is a bit squirrelly. It tightens up and holds well. The rub comes when loosening it, one of the ball ends doesn't like to let go. It could just be due to its newness. But considering what it is, I'd rather it be a bit extra stiff to move than not. This was a good deal for a thing that I can see a ton of uses for.

I tried to use the arm as an adjustable interface between a cell phone holder and the included clamp (which was mounted on bike handlebars.) In attempting to tighten the joint between the arm and the clamp sufficiently to prevent (gravitational) twisting under the load of an unadorned Galaxy S7, the screw plate on one end of the arm simply cracked apart. I have used arms of this type from other manufacturers for over 20 years in various professional video setups to hold monitors, microphones, and accessories. And I have NEVER seen one fail in this fashion. When loads exceed the holding power of friction at the joints, the arm or attached accessory simply slips out of place with gravity. But that's not at all what happened here. I would have assumed all parts of the UTEBIT arm were aluminum (because that's all I'd ever encountered before) even if the product info hadn't explicitly stated (in ChinEnglish), "This magic arm clamp made of stainless steel and aluminium alloy, rust-resistant and durable, steady." But the crumbling of the screw plate shows this claim is patently false and that those plates (if not other parts of the arm) are some kind of composite or plastic. Compare the two photos, one of the cracked UTEBIT and one of a magic arm I've used for the past 15 years or so. The screw plate on that old arm easily permitted me to tighten the end joint so as to hold the cell phone in place, and the areas where finish has worn off show the underlying silver metal. On the other hand, the cracked joints of the UTEBIT plate betray no metallic color in the fissures, and I've never known "stainless steel and aluminium" to crack as opposed to bend. While the included bar clamp seemed to perform okay, I bought the kit primarily for the arm. And it performed so poorly that I am loath to ever trust a product from this manufacturer again.

This is very handy and well-made. I got it to attach my field monitor to my tripod, and it is very strong and locks in place.

Product is good but i want long all good quality good durability is also good but when you know about magic arm who use first time light get little bit problem but it's okay in this price range i thing perfect but I don't take a shot of my camera with my phone because the arm length to short and I am first' time buying magic arm if you want small magic arm then you should buy it

as expected and holds hood weight
