ANATHEMA Universal

If you are familiar with Anathema's recent work, you know what to expect with this. I don't want to give away too many details on the set list to avoid spoilers for people who don't like to know the set list before watching the first time. Let's just say that you will be happy with the selections if you are a fan of everything they've done from Judgement on. The performance, production quality, camera angles, venue, etc. are all top notch. It is great to see Anathema doing well enough in their career at this point to pull off something like this. Regarding the orchestra, they mostly provides subtle accompaniment. Don't get me wrong. The orchestra is there and provides a great addition to Anathema's sound but this isn't like Metallica S&M where the orchestra is very prominent in the mix. One warning -- it is stereo audio. There is no 5.1 mix. I thought this was odd given the production quality otherwise but it is what it is. The stereo audio sounds great on my system so I'm not complaining. In short -- this is a must-have for any Anathema fan.

I never hear Anathema before but i feel the impulse of buy this blu-ray after that i read the numerous reviews that give 5 stars to this concert. As usual, KSCOPE label only put in the market first quality products (Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree included). All blu-ray's in my collection of this label are the best picture and sound quality i ever see and listen. The performance of the band is perfect, the location is AWESOME!!!!!, the roman ruins give a special touch to this concert....oh my god, what a place! The picture quality is true HD and the sound, only LPCM stereo, is high end without question. And if you want more, you have a bonus of 5 songs recorded at The Union Chapel. Fan of Anathema or not, this blu-ray is a excellent choice if you look a great concert.

What a great band, what a sonically beautiful concert. I love all these songs, but in this concert they just sound so much better. These guys truly love what they are doing and what they are playing. The brotherly love that you get from these three, they must of beat on each other when they were younger. LOL Just a great show! I highly recommend this one on Blu-ray!!

Brilliant Band with an absolutely brilliant performance. The venue looks fantastic. The sound is amazing and the band is spot on. Anathema is one of those rare bands that can write hauntingly beautiful music with a heaviness that's unparalleled. They have been on my bucket list to see live for years and have not been able to pull that off. This Blu-ray will have to do for now. All I can say is, if you're a fan of Anathema, then you have to own this Blu-ray. Absolutely fantastic.

A lot of people seem dismayed that there is no Dolby 5.1 track on this album. Let me provide an extremely successful simulation of the 5.1 experience, that in many ways surpasses it: 1) Watch on a large TV with a good sound system. 2) Darken room completely. 3) Smoke an herb of your choice and drink some wine. 4) Press play and relax for a couple hours. Trust me, you won't notice and/or care that it's not 5.1. The video and audio production quality are just fantastic on here... I'm not sure I've heard many live mixes that are this perfectly well-done. Highly recommended.

Great concerts to watch, but they should have been in 5.1. Still worth a purchase in my opinion to support Anathema.

Strange. This Blu-ray doesn't come with lossless DTS HD Master; no 5.1 surround sound. Two stars for missing the most essential component in a music concert on Blu-ray.

Great setting, great band, great cinematography, beautiful setting! What more can you ask for? Sound is great and the band is in fine form as well. Orchestra adds depth and texture to the mix filling out the sound nicely. After seeing them live at a local club, which was a dive with horrible acoustics and a terrible house-sound guy, this was a real treat. Just know that there is no 5.1 mix, but the lpcm mix is quite incredible. Also, the concert is 2hrs 20min. Bonus video of an acoustic set performed at the Union chapel adds another dimension, showing that no matter how small the setting, the emotional impact of this soul touching music comes through. Cannot reccomend enough!

This Anathema concert is in my top five of the fifty DVD concerts I own, which includes bands such as Camel, Floyd, Yes,Tull, Genesis, Neil Young, Roger Waters, Mike Oldfield, Yanni, Steve Hackett, Peter Gabriel, Tarja, Within Temptation, IQ, B.J.H, Springsteen, Dire Straits, to name a few. Getting back to the Anathema concert, the sound is stereo only but is the highest qualty I have ever heard and that goes for the picture too. The blend between band and orchestra is as close to my reference DVD concert - (Black Symphony by Within Temptation), as I could possibly wish for. This is the best band to come out of Liverpool since the ??????? you know who.

Consegna puntuale come solito in uso da parte di Amazon, oramai consuetudine e riferimento per tutti. Il concerto della band inglese è coinvolgente e appagante, reso particolarmente prezioso dalla presenza della sezione archi, che si fa apprezzare senza essere mai invadente. Disco che si rivolge ad un pubblico esigente, che sa apprezzare il contenuto melodico in esecuzioni a matrice prog doom metal, ancora di più addolcite dalla voce unica di Lee Helen Douglas. Un grazie ai fratelli Cavanagh che ci hanno regalato uno dei migliori concerti di sempre, che sicuramente accrescerà la fama della band.

Je vous recommande chaudement ce live. La prestation du groupe est sublime. On sent une vrai alchimie et une forte émotion. Le son est très bon même en 2.0. Je n'ai jamais entendu Vincent Cavanagh et Lee Douglas chanter si bien et le solo sur Flying est magnifique. On pourrait pinailler sur le fait qu'il n'est pas mixé en 5.1 et qu'un titre comme Angelica ne soit pas joué mais ce sont de petites remarques par rapport à la qualité du produit. Foncez, vous ne serez pas déçu.

Ich bin Anathema Fan seit Alternative 4 und habe mit Begeisterung verfolgt, wie sich diese Band von Album zu Album gesteigert hat. Die Musik ist einfach schön, verträumt und wirklich entspannend. ABER: Ich bin nie auf ein Konzert von Anathema gegangen, da ich der Meinung war, dass sich diese Musik auf der Bühne unmöglich authentisch wiedergeben lässt. Als dann also dieses Konzert erschien und ich gelesen habe, dass es mit Orchester ist dachte ich mir, das könnte funktionieren. Und tatsächlich. Das ist einfach nur eines der geilsten Konzerte das ich jemals gesehen habe. Was dabei hervorzuheben ist, dass das komplette Ambiente einfach stimmig und perfekt ist. Die Band in angemessenem Outfit, das Theater, das Orchester, alles grandios! Ich habe mir das Konzert übrigens mit der ganzen Familie angesehen und meine Kinder (2 und 4) sind voll auf die Musik rein gekippt, was mich nicht nur mit Stolz erfüllt sondern auch zeigt, dass Anathema nicht nur für Rock Fans gut ist, sondern wirklich eine breite Masse ansprechen sollte.

Great high definition video with beautiful sound engineering. The performance is stunning. If you are a fan of melodic progressive rock, don't hesitate and buy this.
