Tripods ELC1 Short Carbon Column with Mounting Plate (Black) Size 1

Bought this to replace the long column on my Induro CT-414. Works perfectly, easy to install. Didn't need the extra height from the factory column, so this was a nice way to reduce the weight of the tripod a bit. Note, this column does not come with the bag hook, you have to unscrew the bag hook from factory column and install it on the shorter column. Only reason I didn't give it five stars is I think it's a bit over priced for what it is.

This is a very good addition to any tripod that requires a center-post. This short post allows you to get much lower to the ground for a shot, than the standard center-post tripod. The standard INDURO tripods all have center-posts that are much longer than this post and they reduce the distance from the ground that you can get for a more creative perspective of your scene. This short center-post is of the same quality construction as all INDURO products. I would recommend this addition to any INDURO tripod. Have more fun shooting creative shots.

If I really needed it, I would give it 5 stars, but Induro doesn't tell you that the tripod legs come with a short column along with the regular long column. If you're buying an Induro tripod, DON'T buy the short column. I give a one star because this isn't made clear and it cost me $6 to return it.

Strictly speaking the short column does what it needs to do. It allows me to lower the tripod much closer to the ground.The ELC1 does not save much weight if your goal is to lighten your load when packing and carrying your tripod. Standard column is 146g, short is 112g. Really the only you are losing is some carbon and that does not weight much. The build quality of the short column is similar that of the originally included longer center post.The short column has an all metal (aluminum?) top plate compared to the combo metal, rubber and plastic top plate on the original. I like the all metal top plate as it feels like the head mount more smoothly compared to the rubberized top on the original post. The short column has 3 set screw holes compared to 1 one the longer column. However, the threads of all 3 of the holes on the ELC1 top plate were incomplete and I had to re-tap the threads so get a set screw into any of them.

I am using it with a CT-114 instead of the longer column that came with the tripod. This shorter column allows for much lower height shots. The quality of the two columns are identical. This short column comes with 3 set screws instead of one in the longer original column; I like this arrangement much better. The price is acceptable but I think it is somewhat pricey because there is not much to it.

Well-built and strong, this column is perfect for most applications. I don't raise the center column, so this short column saves weight and allows the tripod to get about 8" off of the ground for macro use. I only wish that the tripod came with this column as opposed to the long one.

I bought his to replace the long column on my tripod as long colums are not stable when extended and when not extend are just in the way.

Well, there's nothing that can go wrong with this part really. Great for macro photography. I don't even bother with the standard column any more.
