Do these require soaking and cooking?

You soak them in clean water changing it daily for two weeks in the last few days you add salt to each change of water. You do not have to cook them. You pop them out of the shell and eat the bean inside. They are much like a chestnut but not as sweet. They have been a family tradition since I was a child, usually for Christmas. Enjoy them

If this a sweet lupin beans?

Not at all. I soak overnight. Cook for 45 min. Then 12-14 days of soaking in water that I change twice a day. Gradually all the sour nastiness gives way to a tasty bean that I then place in brine for a few days. Worth the effort. I make a Marcus at a time...freezing the rest til using.
