I improved the positioning issue myself
**UPDATE 4 mos & still perfect: I use everyday 30-60 min as in my pics, base backward with lamp hanging over edge of end table 18" fr where I sit at sofa's end, I don't change the angle of the head just set it on floor next to my table after use. I stand happy with my hack of reversing the head to get closer to it.One thing I just discovered is I don't need to keep tapping the button to get it on and to its brightest there is a slight latency before the lamp responds to touch - Just touch & wait a second - took me 4 months but now I know the buttons are not badly designed I'm just insanely impatient. They are after all touch controls so yes there's no tactile feedback.-I am a believer at an hour per morning at approximately 18 inches from itSeems to be having an effect but it's not winter yet.Stupid the limited range of motion unable to raise to full vertical and the weight of the base opposite the lamp allows you to bring it to the edge of a nightstand table or sofa cushion in balance1 removed the positioning locking knob pushed on exposed threaded end of hinge pin pulling it out CAREFULLYGently moved it till the head barely moved enough for both sides to separate (DON'T PULL HARD THERE'S NO SLACK IN ELECTRICAL CORD INSIDE) Turned the head had to replace the toothed gear locking discs which fell out so note how they seat so they're like mine seen in my photos returned to the 4 teethed sides of the washers can meet to lock when you return them into place as I did then rocking the hinge pin back carefully flexing the now backwards facing lamp head to find just the minimum amount of flex in the interior cord to pass hinge pin thru then put the tension knob back and tightened in position.Works perfectly now straight up so it is angled straight where you aim it and the stand power pad actually seems more firmly weighted in place this way.To all those who's lamp head flopped - *You need to untighten the knob far enough to tilt head easily so the very shallow teeth in the washers don't strip and lose the edges and take care to position the head minding that the washer teeth are meeting enlocked b4 tightening the knob FIRMLY* so the head doesn't move. It's cheaply made from China consider it delicate don't jerk around with it letting the head bob around and it should last a cpl of yrs What do you expect for 40 bucksI only modified it after I decided that given the price I wouldn't cry if it broke in the 1st 6 mos of use "as-made" so I took a chance and GENTLY reconfigured it knowing I might void any warranty or chance to return but fully expected I might trash it and glad I did.The manufacturer should revisit design making the lamp head able to rotate 360-Degrees

Sturdy and Bright!
After 15 years, my desk-style Bright Light Therapy lamp died, so I hurriedly shopped and found this one. It is good and high, well-situated above my laptop screen… also above my reading glasses, for more direct light to the eyes. Because my old lamp died unexpectedly, I’m not able to compare brightness to the old one, but this one seems close.I like the modern, sleek look., as wellIt is good that the light panel has an adjustable tilt, however, the highest position is still too low for taller people. When sitting at the table, I must either hunch down, or prop the front of the base higher (making it less stable), or just deal with less-than-optimal light because it's aimed at my neck.I would like to store the lamp during the day with the panel fully folded down, but am concerned that the plastic hinge/axle will wear out like my other (initially sturdy) one did.I do have a problem with the box and advertising, which both show “none” for incidence of SAD in most of Texas. WRONG and misleading, likely directing some people who are experiencing SAD away from considering that diagnosis. When I was diagnosed in 2001, I lived in Dallas. Yes, SAD is unexpected in these latitudes, but does occur. However, considering the reduced daylight in the winter and spring coupled with habits such as:• Less reason to go outside in the wintertime – no yardwork, sports or interests outside.• Or unable to go outside regularly (e.g., I’m currently a primary caregiver in our home)• If working, eating a brown-bag lunch in the office and not getting out.• Allergic people may avoid going outside in the early springtime, due to increased airborne pollen.• When the fatigue starts, a typical reaction is to stay indoors and rest, initiating a downward spiral. So Theralite, please update your misleading literature with "Lower Incidence." I believe "Rare" or "Uncommon" would be too strong and still mislead people. Thanks!

Very nice lamp for the price
This lamp is sturdy, very easy to use and position, and provides multiple levels of full-spectrum light, rather than the bright white light many other SAD lamps in this cost range provide. While you do need a decent-sized flat surface for it and will also need an electrical outlet for it, it is easy to position and operate. I am very pleased with this purchase and would buy it again.

Changed my mornings and changed my mood
I love this lamp. I sit in front of it every morning for thirty minutes and my boyfriend says that my mood is significantly better thoughout the day. I am not as tired throughout the day and the best part is that it somehow actually makes waking up earlier easier! I have changed my wake up time from 7 to 6 now and the lamp in the morning really makes it so that I dont have any kind of brain fog or grogginess by the time I get out of bed!

SAD? Get this!
I get the SAD in winter and this noticeably makes a difference for me if used properly. I have it angled downward so it's not directly I'm my eyes and I get pretty close, like 6 inches, every morning during breakfast and time wasted on my phone. The lamp does not get hot so I can be close. The angle adjustment, brightness adjustment, and large lamp surface are key features that set this product apart. It's also pretty lightweight and can be disassembled enough so I can travel with it when gone for a long time. Be careful to use as directed and not too late in the day.
