The Shield Hero rises over the mythical fantasy country of Japan, and beats they're rulers
We begin our latest story arc with the shield hero Naofumi and his close companion Raphtalia planning to invade to isolated island nation hell bent on killing Raphtalia. The exact logic as to why is still coming but before they can invade they need to deal with the leaders of the only country with access to Q'ten Lo and so begins the long awaited journey the Siltvelt the kingdom of beastmen. Half of this volume is dedicated to their journey to this country that worships the Shield, and all the madness because of that. The later half sets the stage for the future battle with the Heavenly Emperor (which I'm not sure but might be just a bratty kid) and gets us ready for the next volume. The most noticeable feature this time around was that I saw no spelling or grammar errors in the Kindle edition. The editors finally got it prefect this time! The best part of this volume was the journey to Siltvelt, the summary is a little misleading as the real excitement is yet to come. Looking forward to the next volume!

Great Progression
I’ve gotta say, this was a pretty good installment. We get to see a new country, and meet some new people. I’m sure the addition of these new folks will only make things more entertaining. I’m hoping we actually get to learn more about Raphtalia’s lineage in the coming Volumes. There’s always something fascinating about royalty and all that entails. And, if everything goes well, Naofumi and his party will have another ally moving forward. That’ll be two other countries he could call on including the country that worshipped him. I’m curious how things will shake out.

A return to form...
This series was really good for the first 4 books, then took a massive nosedive in quality starting with book 5. My first excuse for sticking with the series up until book 6 because I heard that that's when the plot really starts diverging from the web novels. Then I kept reading because I was in the middle of the Spirit Tortoise story arc. Then I stuck around because I felt like I had invested too much time in the series to just drop it. But the story just wasn't really all that good. With all that said, if you're up to book 13 like me, you're also invested in the series, and I'm happy to say that this book is a return to form. It took 8 books, but the story is back to book 1-4 levels of quality. This was something I didn't expect, since it seemed like this book and book 14 where going to bascially be another pointless side story jammed into the main narrative for no good reason like books 8-9 (jury's still out on that actually. We'll see.). I hope Aneko Yusagi keeps up the good work. It is worth noting that the first 2/3 of this book is about stuff in Siltvelt, while only the last 1/3 is about Q'Ten Lo, so the cover/summary is very misleading. The translation work from One Peace is also much better in this book. There's an ad for the anime at the back of the book, and I think the people at One Peace must have thought they needed to actually do a good job for a change, now that their books might get more attention. I'd say that's too little, too late, but I'm happy I'm no longer buying bad work just because it's the only version of the book that exists.

Hero worshipped two
This volume showed the shield hero and his main companion what it is like to be worshipped. The plots continue to move at a good pace. The different companions get different moments to shine and prove that the shield hero has a capable group to handle what is thrown at them. The headaches and challenges in this volume do a good job showing how the shield hero has grown as a character and what makes him successful.

GREAT SERIES
I have now gotten 1-13 of this series and I can say that it’s a great and captivating world. The book itself was in good condition just be sure you’re buying the light novel instead of the manga, you can tell by looking in the description on the amount of pages there are, 300-400 is the light novel 100-200 is the manga. If you plan on collecting the full series like I did I suggest you buy it from here because the prices are better :)

Fantastica
