Mark Knopfler’s ninth solo studio album ‘Down The Road Wherever’ features unhurriedly elegant new songs inspired by a wide range of subjects, including his early days in Deptford with Dire Straits, a stray football fan lost in a strange town, and the compulsion of a musician hitching home through the snow. Mark has a poet’s eye for telling details that infuse his songs with his unique psychogeography – ‘where the Delta meets the Tyne’ as he describes it – and his warm Geordie vocal tone and his deft, richly melodic guitar playing are as breathtaking and thrilling as ever. Review: Love listening to this CD! - Wow! What a musician! I had somehow missed the Dire Straits to Mark Knopfler transition but in my defense it was during the child rearing, husband balancing, job working few decades. I have my work cut out for me as I see he has been very busy. There is an interestingly diverse set of songs which I wasn’t sure I liked together but now love the flow! A couple of songs are down right sexy, some are light and airy, some are historical but they all deal with the human condition. And then of course there are those fingers on the strings! I love the album and will be getting some of his earlier ones. Review: Another Great Album - Yet another great outing from Mark Knopfler. I pre-ordered the MP3 version and then when the Deluxe version was released I purchased the missing tracks. It was well worth it as Drover's Road is one of my favourite songs on the release. I've already booked tickets for his tour. For those of you have not seen Mr. Knopfler perform live....you really don't know what you're missing. A group of outstanding musicians who all seem to love what they are doing. I wish people would stop comparing the newer albums to Dire Straits. Dire Straits disbanded in the mid '90s. Get over it. I loved Dire Straits but I've gotten older since they disbanded. So has Mark Knopfler and lucky for us all he continues to evolve musically and doesn't churn out albums which completely sound like the stuff he was doing decades ago.

It's a good one if you like the post-Straits Knopfler work
This is a good compilation of Knopfler work. It is like most of his other solo work and even better than some of it. It came in a cardboard package, which seems a bit odd to me. But it's worth the listen.

My favorite song writer
This is not my favorite MK effort ,but I've listened only once. His lyrics usually grow on me so my purchase will not have been in vain.

Absolutely beautiful! Love this guy!
What an amazing album that I am thoroughly impressed with! It has a mellow folk/rock/blues sound that I can’t get enough of!

A jazzed work of genius !
From slick tales of English culture to the slick sounds from the Western United States’ past……clean sweet guitar work with fascinating lyrics……excellent studio mixing. This is not Dire Straits but the maturation of an incredible musician, composer. If this doesn’t move you or fill you with intrigue then I suggest you may be deceased. This is a polished gem !

My all-time favorite album, from any artist
I think this album is perfect. I'm listening to it now - for about the 100th time. I first bought the standard, and then the deluxe version. Definitively go for the deluxe version. The recording quality is fabulous, every song is equally great in its own way, and in my humble opinion you'll find Mark Knopfler at the top of his game - so far! And it's one of those albums that just keeps getting better and better...

Knopfler Nails It
Those who have followed Mark Knopfler's solo career lately will know that he has been branching out stylistically, and the results are scattered across the massive Privateering and its follow-up, Tracker. I enjoyed both of those albums, but some moments felt like filler or outright retreads of previous songs. With Down the Road Wherever, Knopfler has brought all of his new elements together into a fresh and thrilling package that long-time fans and newcomers alike will be able to enjoy. 16 songs, 78.5 minutes, and not a second of it feels like wasted time, filler, or a retread from a previous album (I'm looking at you, all three or more variations on "You Can't Beat the House"). This album is, without a doubt, one of my all-time favorites from any artist. Folk, funk, rock, jazz, all rolled into that distinct Knopfler style that fans have come to love. Long-time fans couldn't possibly ask for more, and anyone who likes music at all will find plenty of bang for their buck here.

Die 16 Track Version beinhaltet die folgenden Titel: 1 Trapper Man 2 Back On The Dance Floor 3 Nobody's Child 4 Just A Boy Away From Home 5 When You Leave 6 Good On You Son 7 My Bacon Roll 8 Nobody Does That 9 Drovers' Road 10 One Song At A Time 11 Floating Away 12 Slow Learner 13 Heavy Up 14 Every Heart In The Room 15 Rear View Mirror 16 Matchstick Man Bei der 14 Tracks Version fehlen die Lieder 14+15. Aber "Down the Road Wherever" hat echt schöne Highlights. "Just A Boy Away From Home" was auch ein seht schönes Stück mit dominanter gitarre ist.

Long live the King! Anzi...the Sultan!
