Vijnanabhairava Or Divine Consciousness: A Treasury Of 112 Types Of Yoga Sanskrit Text With English Translation

A Classic but Only Useful for Real Yoga Practitioners
I have two translations of the this ancient tantric text, which like many yoga scriptures is somewhat dateless, although Jaideva Singh estimates it may have been composed during the 7th-8th centuries or thereabouts. That said, the text itself claims to be the quintessence of the no longer available Rudrayamala Tantra and like all the real yoga classics it's roots are buried in a time when such practices, as described within, were taught in the traditional master - pupil situation and oral teaching methods were strictly guarded and never written down. So, it is impossible to date the arrival of practices described in this tantra but very, very, very long ago is a good estimate. The book itself contains 112 different types of dharana practices, which will lead the practitioner to a state of total self realisation. Prior to the concise descriptions of these dharanas various slokas take one through explanations of kundalini, dharma, mantras, pranayama in the form of kumbhaka, as well the relativity of Shakti and Shiva. The concluding slokas are equally profound and if any of the words so far used are alien to you then this book will be of no use.
