perfect
worth every penny as a replacement for the original filter bag. I have been using these filters for 10+ years now have never seen something that works as good at polishing the water.

Great filtration
I have used many of these these bags in 2 diatom filters for gravel cleaning for over 35 years.Great filtration when used with the diatom powder.I would recommend using a coating of aquaium silcine on the filter around the plastic neck at the top as that is the area prone to wear over time and holed develop if you take the filter on and off a lot.The silicone will help you get better milage.

Do yourself a favor and buy the Magnum water polishing filter it is just a good if not better
Do not buy this product as well as the D-1 Filter. It should not be sold as it is not ready for production. It worked for me just once and then the Motor went dead! I really did want this to work as I had one years ago! Do yourself a favor and buy the Magnum water polishing filter it is just a good if not better.

Diatom filter replacement bag for D-1
Bag was not 100% sealed. Tried using super glue to close about a one inch opening in the bag. See how long it will hold together?

It does what it is designed to do...
Yes, the Vortex D-1 and its accessories are a bit of a pain to use. It is really a specialty filter, not something for the average consumer to use on a regular basis. But if you have an aquarium with water that looks like pea soup, or suspect a water-born parasite is loose in your tank, this is the filter to have and it is worth the extra effort it takes to use it. It can clear a completely opaque green tank to crystal clear in less than an hour. The diatomaceous earth filter will also filter out water-borne nasty critters that are too small to see with the naked eye. You end up with a tank with completely polished water. In my case, I have a very large tank. When cleaning time comes along, I invariably leave a mess suspended in the water from the stirred-up gravel or from algae cleaned from the glass. If I put a Vortex into the tank before I clean - voila! - no crud suspended in the water, just crystal clear beauty. So yes, it is messy to set up, noisy, messy to clean - and it does exactly what is designed to do: Clean the worst messy excuse for aquarium water in a short amount of time into a crystal clear paradise for your fish. 'Nuff said!
