I was unlucky
If you have an older printer and want to connect to a PC without a parallel printer port this is the easy answer. In my case the printer was an elderly Epson wide format and this gadget worked pefectly allowing connection to a USB port. My only problem was the unit gave up after a few days and because it was after I'd moved the printer I broke open the casing to see if I could find the fault. I didn't have to look too hard as one of the wires was floating around inside having broken from it's solder to one pin. Another wire was just about to part company so I resoldered all wires and fixed case together again. It now works fine. Think I was just unlucky with this particular unit (the eight year old Korean who probably made it may have been having a bad day :-) Overall price and fast delivery were excellent and it does the job perfectly.

Simply "Plug & Play"
I was given a 12-year old HP2100 Laser Printer; I have a 5-year old PC with no IEEE 1284 port, and, running Vista. Before connecting this cable to my printer, I simply plugged it into a USB socket on the PC, and Vista immediately recognised it.The cable is however, only a miserly 91cm long.Fortunately, I had a spare 2m-long USB m/f extension cable.Only then did I connect the Extension + cable to the Printer. Vista then unilaterally recognised a HP2100 printer had been connected.I selected a Word-document at random, hit CTRL+P, selected HP2100 from the list offered, and Hey Presto - out came a crisp laser-printed letter.I did not need to download any Driver, nor make any changes to any software settings on my PC.

Works, so old printer back in service
This cable has got my old printer working with my new computer, so I am well pleased. It is short, but this doesn't matter to me. I run Windows 7 Home Premium and the printer is a Canon BJC-4300. Windows recognized the printer straight away.I know this is not a long-term solution because cartridges are nearly sold out (though very cheap now), but I do not like the big, ugly printers currently in the shops, and couldn't bring myself to buy one!

shoddy quality
The wide part of the cable was extremely hard to fit into the printer. Extremely flimsy quality and it took me a full 15 minutes and many positions just to force the cable into the printer. Even then the pc didnt recognise that the printer was attached to the pc and I gave up after a number of times and demanded a refund. Avoid at all costs.
