Great bin but mechanism didn’t last 3 years
Found this bin to be a huge upgrade from pedal versions with my 2 young kids in mind. Far less mess or marks on the back wall from over enthusiastic foot stomps. The lid fits on very securely and it isn’t much effort to change bags.We owned this for little over 2 1/5 years before the mechanism for the lid gave up. The lid wasn’t dropped or damaged in any way and regularly cleaned. I’ll be buying again and this time considering the extended warranty a little more

Good and bad
The good: looks nice, large size, good price and lid works well. The bad: Poorly made seam at the back which makes the bin look cheap and a little difficult to put the lid on.Even so...I love it!

Really smart
This is a great product. 3rd sensor bin I have had and this is definitely the best. Slick looking and works exactly as advertised.

If you like to play chicken with inanimate objects then this is the item for you.
Where do I start? Well the idea of a bin that opens itself when you are about to put rubbish in appeals to most, after all no contamination of a flip lid and none of that pesky pedal bin foot action, a bin that activates its lid automatically and then closes itself as soon as you are done with it sounds amazing so into my basket it went. From the opening of the package the fun started and my life seemed so much easier, my disposal of rubbish in the kitchen was complete, well it was until the gremlins started. It was about a week into my new streamlined life that things started to become a little bit more interesting. For a start the lid appeared to be a bit erratic. When you were clearing plates and even though you were clearly in sensor range as the plate was hovering over it, the machine decided it would be fun to just close with no warning forcing you to pull the plate away before it attempted to knock it out of your hand.Next the bin decided that it was having an identity crisis and no longer wanted to be a bin but an ornament. No matter how many times you waved your hand over the sensor it wouldn’t open. New batteries would be inserted as perhaps it was running low on power but to no avail. However the bin would clearly open when a fly was passing to entice it in to my lovely food waste, “ah perhaps it wants to be a Venus fly trap” I thought as it closes its lid, but no the thing would open up without warning some time after, stay open and out would come said visitor happily engorged with my leftovers. The add insult to injury to it not activating when I wanted it to, I could hear it when in bed at night mocking me. I would hear the lid opening and closing, as the motor inside is not the quietist in the world, as if it was laughing. The damn thing is possessed. On the plus side when it does open for you it’s attempts to knock your plate out of your hand means that food gets dropped on the floor. My kitchen floor has never been cleaner after clearing it up.So as it goes I have decided that the bin can stay but it has no batteries in now and I open it manually but if I ever get bored and want play chicken with then bin then this is the bin for you, well before it attempts to take over the world

Looks good. Automatic sensor means no dirty fingerprints

nice looking bin, shame it arrived a little warped
Shape is a little off, not perfectly oval, looks crushed at the seam, thankfully as this was at the rear it doesn't effect the aesthetic look from the front or side. Love the touchless function, and as such I've found less need to clean it than my prior bin.

Opening mechanism very flimsy
Got 6 months of decent use out of this product and before the cog sheared away from the lid mechanism (see picture).I was quite surprised this essential moving part is made out of plastic of all things. Hence my durability/sturdiness ratings are quite low.The body of the bin itself is solid and rubbish capacity is good but this is quite poor to have broken within such a short time frame. On to the fun part of warranty. Amazon (AZ) referred me back to the manufacturer/supplier, Tower. To which I got a relatively prompt response back saying the following:1. They currently do not have the required part in stock that would rectify the issue raised.2. Under Consumer Rights Act of 2015 the first year warranty of your appliance is the responsibility of the retailer where you made your purchase. As you have confirmed your appliance is less than 12 months old, you are able to exercise your Consumer Rights and obtain a full resolution from this retailer.3. Your appliance should be returned back to the place of purchase. The retailer may offer an exchange, refund, partial refund or goods to the value - this will be at the stores discretion and will depend on the age of the item and the nature of the fault. So, Tower are passing on the buck back to AZ fine then.Navigating some form of return/replacement to do with warranty of an item is like trying to navigate a maze in pitch black. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to kick off a process of warranty query anywhere or they do a good job hiding it to make it as difficult as possible. When I get to the end of this process I'll update as to the out come. In the meantime, do yourself a favour and buy a manual mechanism that's sturdy and just works.
