The bottom of the wings are not attached to the body. You can make them flap by putting your finger under the bottom part of the wing. Hope this answers your question.

I understand the owl's head is turned to the its right shoulder but should the owl's left wing be so far back it's practically on its back??

I don't know if it should be, but that is the way ours is, too.
