There is a button where the power cord connects to the pad. Press it to cycle through the different lighting modes or long press to turn lights off.

Is it big enough to place keyboard and mouse?

You can rest assured that the mouse pad is lager enough,I mean the XXL one.

Is Mode 8 and Mode 9 the rainbow color like you see in the main picture or does it only show one color at a time?

No, the rainbow gradient mode only shows one color at a time. It cycles through the colors at a constant rate.
