IT worked just the way I expected, has good pickup strength and the retractable shaft like I wanted for taking up less space while not in use.

I bought this telescopic magnetic pickup after watching a YouTube video where a similar device was used to find studs inside walls. This, by finding where screws are located and therefore concluding with a high degree of certainty there's a stud there. The magnet on it seems to be strong enough for this purpose. I tried it inside the bathroom and it worked acceptably, although this idea seems to not work with metal inside the wall (like pipes). Use a stud scanner for that.The item comes in its own bag which protects it during shipping. It's made out of metal and has a blue rubber coated handle, which improves grip. It's 7 1/8" long when retrieved, and it reaches 31" when fully extended. It weighs 2 3/4 ounces (81 grams).Overall, I think it's a reasonable quality device. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars, is because I think it becomes too wobbly when fully extended. I tried lifting 560 gr (19.7 oz) and it was able to do it with no issues, backing up the manufacturer's claim it'd lift 20 ounces (566 gr). However, it bent too much when fully extended and lifting it in a slight angle.I'm yet to use it pick up screws or other metal items from hard to reach places. Will update my review later.

I had a similar item which I could not find so I got a new one during a bout of impulse buying on Amazon. The product has been improved by adding a light and a magnet. The light is adequate and the magnet is stronger than expected. The gripper expands wider than before and has a firm enough grip to pick up something that weighs a couple a few pounds. The magnet is strong also, you could pick up a nail or probably a box of nails. The shaft can hold its shape if you are trying to go around a corner. You can get longer ones but they won't hold the shape. It comes in a white package with a nail sized hole so you can hang it up in plain sight and find it when you need it. The light and the magnet are nice additions, I suspect you will be able to get one with a camera soon, maybe it's already here.

This telescoping magnet is compact and very strong, magnetically speaking. Physically, the magnet is very brittle and it shattered when my son dropped it on the floor right after we took it out of the package. Also, the shaft is bendy side to side.I glued the larger chunks back into the metal holder, but I had bought another one at the same time which has a larger, stiffer rod, and I use it instead to pick up metal objects from the bottom of the lake in my kayak.

I was picturing a much bigger tool. Like, one that you take out in the yard. Not a metal detector but something more along that size. This is like for picking up a paper clip off the floor, not for finding precious metal things in your yard. I wanted to buy this for my 7 year old nephew as he loves being outside and finding “treasures.” I wish I could return it to get a refund but Amazon isn’t showing that as an option any more.

I use this a lot to pickup after welding. Does a great job for that or finding lost connectors on the ground. Wish there was a easy way to clean it. I end up wrapping an old plastic bag around it to pull off any tiny pieces of metal.
