Despite being someone that loves experimenting in the kitchen, I have until recently avoided buying a kitchen blow torch. On the rare occasions that I wanted to use one, I simply used the small propane plumber’s torch my husband has for home repairs instead. Seeing how affordable the kitchen-specific ones have become in recent years, however, had me rethinking this as I had a dinner party approaching with a request for crème brûlée as dessert.I have a Zen Spirit chef’s knife that has become one of my go-to daily knives, so I was very glad to see that they also had a kitchen torch available--and very affordably priced too! I purchased the butane separately, and it has turned out to be pretty easy to find at local stores as well which is very convenient. I love the child-proof lock on the torch, as I have a very curious 8-year-old boy and it is definitely a little too complex for him to figure out. Use-wise, the torch is extremely simple and easy for an adult to get the hang of. The flame adjuster knob is easy to spin and use with your non-torch-wielding hand, and with little trial and error I had it adjusted exactly where I needed it. I have somewhat petite hands, and found this torch to be much easier for me to maneuver than the rather bulky propane plumber’s torch. I had great success in caramelizing the tops of my six brûlées, and my guests loved watching the process. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase, and am already planning what I will be doing with it next!

I was fairly skeptical about this purchase. In the past, I had just used small butane blow torches that I had to light myself. But, after having used this, I'll never go back. Firstly, I have rheumatoid arthritis, and I was worried that pulling the trigger would be hard, and keeping the flame lit would be even harder. It's not, at all. I had no trouble lighting it. And, there's a button to hit that keeps the torch continuously lit. It works so well that you can completely turn it upside down and it'll stay lit. The heat seems to remain even, as well. The only real complaint that I have is that it didn't come with fuel. I did purchase the fuel with it, but it took several days to arrive after I had already received my torch. So, if you're impatient, you'll likely spend several days going crazy waiting to use your torch before you get the fuel to use it. You can, of course, go out and buy the fuel from of convenience store, but I wouldn't recommend that. Once I did receive it, I realized that it's a bigger container than usual and that the usual cans of butane wouldn't fill the sucker more than once properly. It's quite a big can. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this product, and I've already started recommending it to my friends!

I was a little nervous about getting my first butane torch. However, I liked how safe this ended up being. There is a child resistance lock as well as the trigger that must be pushed. Also, adding the butane to the torch ended up being quite easy. I like that the directions were right on the box, along with a diagram of how to use it. I was afraid that the torch might set off my overenthusiastic fire alarm, but it did not. I used a low flame to roast some peppers in my kitchen and it worked nicely. It’s also nice that you can control how big the flame can get. As long as you follow the directions, it is very safe to use and I enjoyed cooking with it!

We do an internet cooking show, but we also do crafts with epoxy. Getting those darn bubbles out used to be impossible - but not anymore! This mini-torch came packaged nicely with typical poorly translated instructions from China, but this ain't rocket science.One piece of advice - when you're filling it with butane, DO IT OUTSIDE or at least in a very open area. I've seen people do this over a sink and the flash fire burned their arms! To fill it OUTSIDE, turn the torch upside down, find the tiny fill pin, push your butane fuel into the pin, and wait a few seconds and release. Don't worry about overfilling it, because it'll turn to liquid and evaporate almost immediately. Ours filled to overflow in less than 10 seconds.There's a safety switch behind the handle that must be depressed before you can light the torch and allow the fuel to flow to the nozzle. A GREAT safety feature to avoid the little ones getting hurt. There's also a dial on the back. My +- sticker fell off almost immediately, but that's no major problem. While it's fired up, turn it either way to adjust the power of your flame. If your torch doesn't fire up right away, turn the knob the other way to increase the flow.I like it. The price was right, it fires right up, and does the job.

I love this torch much more than the one I currently have. With the Zen Spirit Torch, I can actually use just one hand instead, which is incredibly convenient. As a student of holistic health, I use charcoal discs for burning herbs & resin, and lighters are a nightmare! I grew tired of burning my fingers constantly. (So, while some people might use theirs every once in a while, I use my torch on a daily basis.) Because of this, my favorite feature is the continuous flame lock! Charcoal discs need several seconds of a steady flame before they start to crackle, and having this feature is so much easier. I’m looking forward to using the torch for actual cooking and baking, also. It’s already impressed me in the first few uses – I tossed my old one! I also appreciate the packaging. Zen Spirit really does everything perfectly down to the smallest detail.
