This was my first time to make vanilla extract. I ordered one package of 50 beans as I did not know how many ounces it would be. With the packaging, it turns out to be 4.7 oz. Ordered 2nd package to make 1/2 gal of extract. I combined 2 packages and the total weight of all the beans sans packaging was 9.1 oz of beans. The quality of the beans was excellent. They were uniform in length. Of course, there were some that were less plump but overall, they had plenty of moisture / oil, and I believe the amount of caviar was a very good ratio. I split the beans and scraped them to maximize the surface area and loosen the caviar. I did not put them into individual bottles, choosing instead to put them in a half gallon mason jar, then vacuum sealed the jar, shook well and set the jar aside. I plan to agitate them regularly for the first month, then taper off until I have let them sit for 4 months. then I will filter them and bottle them for Christmas. In reading the reviews prior to purchase, some people indicated they received moldy beans. This was not the case for me. I do not claim to be a long time maker of extract, but I am a long time cook and baker. This is just my experience with this product. YMMV. I have ordered some Madagascar beans and will compare the products when I make another batch with those. I hope this has been somewhat helpful in the event you wanted to know the weight of each package as opposed to just the number of beans. A final note is I used SVEDKA 80 proof vodka which is a 4 times distilled vodka.

These are great beans. I have been ordering them for a couple of years. My October subscribe and save order did not come. My back up did not come. After trying to get Amazon to tell me if it would ever come and not getting a response, I concluded Amazon was only interested in my money not service. I think I need to find out if I can bypass Amazon to receive the product BTW Amazon finally responded by canceling the order after a week of no response. Wonder if my next order will come??

Tahitian vanilla beans are different. They're better suited for fruity desserts and I've realized that they are excellent for perfume and body care. They have a gorgeous vanilla scent without the dark, caramel gourmand notes. I've added some beans to alcohol for room/pillow sprays before sleep and it's intoxicating. Ive just started experimenting with adding some to oil for hair & body application. I have no complaints about these beans. Fast shipping, great price. Will likely reorder.

I tried 3 kinds of vanilla beans for making my own extract. I do prefer the Madagascar cultivar as it is a more robust complex odor, but the Tahitian smelled very much like vanilla. I could use it in baked goods. Also notable, my 10 beans were 12, and the weight was 35 gm as opposed to 21-23 grams for other varieties and brands of M. vanilla. I haven't had enough time to make a comparison of taste. I didn't see any benefit in using A grade at all. Also, I snipped the beans directly into my jars as they kept hanging up in the funnel neck. I made 4 bottles from a 1.75 l of Vodka so not quite a full 16 oz per package. Because of the extra weight, this variety used 12 gm Vodka per gm of vanilla bean, as opposed to around 18 for the other packages. I tried a brand for 30$ as opposed to 23$ which was minimally better smelling (after 4 weeks), but for the money, I think this brand was great.

UPDATE: Cynthia contacted me and very politely explained the process of their item arriving at my doorstep (it makes multiple stops from them to the distribution center of Amazon). She sent a replacement item and only asked to let her know how the item arrived when it was delivered. Will update again once item arrives. Item arrived just now with broken vacuum seal. Not sure how potent these will be, and unable to request replacement or refund. VERY disappointed as it was a good deal. Would have liked to continue ordering but not sure I will. Will update after using the beans.

Perfect, I store them in the freezer for long-term holding. It smells wonderful. It’s perfect for extracting the beans. They will spoil so I highly recommend keeping them cold.

My favorite bean to make vanilla or to add into my favorite liqueur! Good, solid quality! Started auto-ship to keep them coming!

As soon as I opened up the box I could smell the vanilla and it was still in its sealed package. Very fragrant.These are a good size,I never had any trouble cutting the pod or scraping out the seeds.Looking forward to making my own vanilla!
