Poor quality B&W on Newsprint, for a cookbook?
Book is printed in Black & White on newsprint quality paper. It is riddled with typos (Spell check was on, but not grammar check). Therefore I can have no confidence that recipes are accurate, given the editorial lapses. Little useful info about the Joule Sous Vide machine. Not worth the money, so I'm returning.

Where has this been all my life?
Wow! I didn't realize sous vide cuisine was so easy or so convenient! This morning before going to work I put a couple steaks in plastic bags into a pot of water and attached the Joule gadget to the pot. I used the joule phone app to select the temperature and cook time and hit the start button to start cooking. When I got back from work I opened the bags, took the cooked (to perfection!) steaks out of the bags and seared them in butter to get a nice crust, then served the best steaks I've ever, ever cooked in my life! Ruth's Chris would be jealous! The gadget is awesome, and the book's recipes are amazing. I bought the kindle version and I'm very happy with this book. The recipes are clear, there is nutritional information for each recipe, and everything seems to be categorized in a way that's easy to find. 5 stars!

Book doesn't meet the high quality of the appliance.
Over all, the book is o.k. It provides a good explanation of the sous vide process. Since the actual cooking process is controlled by the smartphone, would have appreciated more details about how to use the app . (Remember the good old days when software programs came with written user manuals?)One of the main issues I have with the book is that the Kindle "Go To" option doesn't let you go to the Table of Contents to select a recipe. For some reason, Kindle starts the book AFTER the table of contents. (I didn't even know the book had a Table of Contents until I accidently paged back before Chapter 1). This means you have to Go To the 'Beginning", then page back - to be able to find recipes. I have purchased several cookbooks on Kindle and have never had this issue before. I first tried the "Seared Salmon" recipe. The salmon was cooked perfectly for most people; however I like fish (especially salmon) on the rare side. Didn't see an option in the recipe or the app to make adjustment for that. In the future, will experiment with timing until I find the one that works for me.The next recipe I made was the "Beef Bourguignon." I was stumped when the recipe called for a 'bottle of red wine.' How much wine is that supposed to be? I assumed 750 ml, and used a pinot noir; but, after cooking, thought the wine taste was a little strong. Same issue with the carrots. What size carrots? (I had a bunch of organic small carrots - so had to guess.) Also, there was no mention that bay leaf needs to be removed from the sauce (to prevent accidental choking). Nor were you told to mix the flour with the softened butter (making a beurre manié) before adding to thicken the sauce. (Something a beginning cook wouldn't know. The Joule Sous Vide is a high quality kitchen appliance. Just wish the accompanying cookbook was up to the same standards.

Good for reference and also to learn the basics for new sous vide chefs
I bought the Kindle version of this book which has very few pictures of the finished recipes. This didn't bother me much since I generally judge a recipe by the ingredients, but for some the lack of pictures would be a detriment. If you are new to sous vide cooking, this book would be very helpful as it explains the history of sous vide and it's uses. For those experienced with sous vide cooking, this book is a good reference for times and temperatures required for different foods. I like that most of the recipes are pretty basic and don't require elaborate spices or ingredients that no one keeps on hand. I really didn't want a book with a lot of elaborate recipes - just the basics on how long to cook foods and at what temperatures. This book does provide that information. Referring to this book is a lot easier than internet searches that provide a wide range of temperatures and cooking times for different foods.Once you get to know the basics for sous vide times and temperatures, this book may be better used as a quick reference. I reduced the star rating to 4 only because of the lack of pictures that may be important to some people. I do recommend this book to people that are new to sous vide cooking as it has a lot of information to learn the basics.

The joule is a jewel
I'm a big fan of the joule sous vide, and a big fan of this book! Good: the book includes instructions and photos on how to use the joule and its app. I found this useful in helping me understand how to use my new joule. The recipes are much better! The recipes in this book have made eating interesting again. They are easy to understand, delicious, and easy to make too I find. I've tried making some of the french toast, the (perfect, rockin!) corn on the cob, the turkey breast, baby back ribs and salmon. All of it turned out to be really amazing and were extremely simple to make too.If you're an experienced sous vide chef, then this book won't be earth-shattering. But if you're just starting with sous vide, or you just have purchased or obtained a joule sous vide tool, then this book is a great and useful companion that will expand your understanding of the joule and what it can do.The wide range of recipes in this book (breakfast, vegetables, meats, desserts) have given me a true culinary b adventure.

Buy it if it is CHEAP, otherwise don't waste your money
The opening chapters regarding the Joule and general sous vide cooking tips are worth buying this book if it cheap enough ($2.99), but the recipes and overall general everyday cooking instructions are less than inspirational. Save your money and Google it. Tons of sous vide recipes, cooking instructions and advice for free.

Unbelievable difference in the taste and consistency of food
Amazing difference in food quality.Best filet I have ever had, including top quality restaurants.Last night I fed some friends filet's from Sam's club. Cooked with Sous Vide as described, all medium rare, seasoned and finished on a Weber Grill. Amazing results. All were thrilled with the taste, consistency and overall finish. All at $7/pound.Will never cook again with anything else.

A total waste of money, misleading preview in colour for a black and white book
once you get past the very long winded and repetitive introduction that informs you this book has got nothing to do with Joule or ChefSteps, which the title and cover would have you believe, you come to the incredibly boring recipes on cheep paper in black and white. I looked at the books online preview and it is totally misleading as you think you're getting a cookbook in colour with colour photo's, the only thing in colour is the cover. Then the worst part are the recipes are equally dull and uninspiring.

Must have with your Joule Sous Vide
This is a fantastic recipe book that provides very good details about temperature settings to use with your Chef Steps Joule.Since having this book, I have already found what went wrong on a preparation prior to the book regarding temperature and weight of meat.I had hoped for some color photos, but this is all printed in grey scale.
