Whynter Portable Air Conditioner 14,000 BTU with Dual Hose Dehumidifier & Cooling Fan for 500 Sq Ft Rooms, Includes AC Unit Window Kit, ARC-14S (9,500 SACC)

The unit is heavy, but I was able to manage to get it i to my house just fine. It is a large unit and it will take up room, so pay attention to the measurements. Overall, it is an excellent machine! I have been using it for just about a month. I am in NY where the summer has been humid and in the upper 80’s. I did have to use adhesive velcro and plexiglass in the window. I bought this specifically to use in my casement windows that open from the top and out. The plexiglass was used to act as a window frame to keep the outside out. I was able to get the velcro and plexiglass at Home Depot. It did take me time, but I am happy with home it turned out. The unit works well! It kept our living room cool during these hot days. When the fan is on full speed it is loud. I only had to connect the outtake hose. This way, the air from inside the house was being cooled and then exhausted out the window. The only issue I have, and this may be user error- the screws to attach the hose to the window plate are the improper size. They do not secure the hose to the plate at all. I was able to place it just right to connect it, but now it will not stay attached.

This is an amazing AC unit. It uses a double hose setup that purportedly removes hot air as it injects cold air, so it is more efficient at cooling a room. The unit I purchased was the heat and air, and I can say that it works great. It's only rated to 500 sqft, but the room we have it in encompasses 2 separate areas, with a wall partially in between and covers a little over 550 sqft. I can say that this unit is actually able to keep both areas pretty cool, with a couple of small ceiling fans running to help circulate the air. Our room temperatures went down from 80-90+ degrees to around the 70 degree point we needed. This thing works better than some other single hose counterparts (frigidaire for example). Noise wise, this unit has been a mild sound. It fades into other general background noises, and I've had a bladed fan running nonstop until I got this that was way louder. It also is a little quieter than some window units I've tried using.The only downside I'd have about this unit is that the heat pump doesn't work below 45 degree farenheit. This was not known to me at the time of purchase and I was hoping it'd be able to run during the winter, but it won't be able to do that based on the manual and related information. Still, this heat pump fares better than other models as well. I discussed the heat pumps on competitor units at frigidaire and the support staff informed me the portable ac heat pumps don't generally work well below 60 degrees. The only other thing I discovered was this unit drained a lot of condensation for the first 48 hours, so much so I ended up having to hook up continuous drainage as I was taking tray fulls of water out of the unit. Apparently our house was very humid or similar as it stopped leaking so much after the first couple of days - but something to be aware of. The unit will turn itself off and just say "STOP" until you drain it, which I don't believe the manual indicated very well. Also, draining the entire internal tank requires tilting the unit by about 45 degrees, at least as I was told by support staff over a chat.Overall, there's not much that will be wrong with purchasing this, unless you expect the heat pump to work all winter ( as I was hoping), but it is able to cool a room fairly larger than it was qualified for and so far the best of the several different units I've tried.

After reading some of the other reviews here, I was hesitant to purchase this unit but it appeared to fit my needs better than any other unit I saw that I could afford. The delivery was top notch and I received the unit well packaged and undamaged. It was very easy to make sense of the simple controls but I did struggle some with getting the hoses connected to their respective connections and I was hesitant because it seemed like something would break with the amount of pressure I had to use. Disconnecting the hoses from, and reconnecting them to, the machine takes some time and effort. Other than that easy to set up. I had to use some foam at either end of the window insert because I could not get a matching length using the provided parts. (I may have received duplicated long pieces because I think one was supposed to be shorter than the others. In the end, though, I'm glad I used the foam because it sealed and secured the window insert better. I kept the unit close to the window so I did not have to extend the hoses. As a result, very little hot air came off the exhaust hose in the room and I did not find a need to wrap it with an insulator.The noise level on the unit is tolerable for me. It really isn't that much louder than the high speed fan it replaced or the two window fans I use when it is not hot enough for the AC. The unit cooled my very large room effectively on high 90 and humid days. I also used it in an open space room with a couple of fans and it cooled a larger area than it should have quite well. Of course, I'm talking about 72F - 75F degrees of dry air as opposed to going for 62F. The unit also has a de-humidifying function but I did not use that. I did use the fan only function but I found my other fans to be more effective for that purpose. I experienced no leaks or problems as of now. I just stored it for the season (they give you a nice cover for that purpose that includes a pocket for the manual) and that was easy enough but draining the water as the manual states needs to be done to store it) was not easy because the drain is so low to the floor and you have to tip the machine to drain it. It was hard to find a container I could use to collect the drainage but it got done. So, success for the first season and the result is a satisfied customer thus far. I would opine that the AC is a good value for the money.
