Great book for a beginner like me
I love this book! It is exactly what I was looking for. I have enjoyed trying to do some hand letter designs and decided to make it my summer hobby. The book has tutorials that are short and to the point. It teaches you one technique and you can spend as much time practicing as you want before creating your "final piece" at the end of the tutorial. There's only one practice page for each tutorial which is fine by me because I didn't want to buy a book with a ton of blank pages...I can use a notebook to practice. I like the final piece page because it's almost like a test for myself before moving on to the next tutorial. This book is thick and covers tons of stuff. At the end it even has a tutorial on how to digitize your work. As a beginner this is exactly what I was hoping to find.

BEAUTIFUL book
This book was so absolutely worth the money! I've found that hand lettering really is a relaxing hobby, and while I originally planned to learn it for my bullet journaling, I can see myself being able to use Amy's techniques in a variety of different situations. My intention was to learn a lesson a day, but I ended up zooming through the book the first night I had it. Now I'm going back through to take it a little more slowly, and I know that it won't be the last time I do so.Unlike a lot of lettering books, there aren't a ton of blank pages--I know it's annoying to get a book and realize it's mostly scratch paper. You'll get a nice walkthrough for each lesson consisting of a few pages each, and then a page afterward to practice on. I feel too wrong to write in my book, so I just use an extra notebook. :)I recommend this book so highly, and I can't stop bragging about it. You won't be disappointed in the least.

Amy created a beautiful hand lettering book
Amy created a beautiful hand lettering book. The book is made with quality paper and the book opens flat, so you can write comfortably on each page. Each of the lessons are well written and have step by step directions. There are also drawings to color on every page. Fun book, just hit that buy button!

Wonderful for a Beginner - Experienced Artists Will Likely Find Too Basic
This is a perfect book for a beginner in lettering and simple art. The book's preview of "Look Inside" gives an accurate feel for the entire book. The book is printed on thick stock and it is well bound, meaning it will hold together but you can also completely open the book without having to use a paperweight. I am new to lettering and it gives exactly what I need. It explains how to mix different types of fonts, how to blend colors together for font, how to place various words (such as curving some words while leaving other words straight), how to write in numerous font styles, how to create watercolor backgrounds, how to make monograms, how to overlap text, how to digitize your work and how to do some basic drawing. Again, if you are an established artist or calligrapher, this book is too basic for you. For a beginner, it is a wonderful, fun, non-intimidating introduction book. Personally, I like the pages best that weren't part of the preview. However, as I mentioned, the entire book is at the skill-level you can preview. So, if you like the preview, I think you'll like the book. If you're not "wowed" by the preview, you probably won't like the book.

Great tool for learning lettering!
I love, love, love this book! It is great for a beginner like me! I wanted to make my Bible journaling look more professional. (My handwriting is terrible!) And this book has some fun, easy techniques for improving my lettering! Plus it has ideas for shading and doodles, too! If you want to make your lettering look nicer, then this is a great tool! She shows you a technique, and then you practice it and reproduce it on the next page. It's fun to see my progress, and I've already used the techniques in my Bible! :)

Everyone can learn to hand letter using this book!
I pre-ordered this book and am so excited to finally receive it. I've take a mini-workshop on hand lettering, before, but had trouble picking it up in such a short amount of time. I like that I can work at my own pace using this book and that there are practice spaces provided throughout the hefty workbook. Ms. Latta has written and demonstrated easy to understand directions and I was able to accomplish the first lesson easily and (I think) pretty successfully! I look forward to working my way through this book and have already recommended it to a friend!

So pleased!
I have been so excited to receive this book written by one of my favorite creators! And it did not dissapoint! This book is soooo legit. First thing I noticed was the heftiness; it's not a wimpy mini book. The pages are quality thickness. The next thing, and most important, the content is extremely well organized. It is definitely a comprehensive intro into hand lettering but goes beyond an introduction and dives into some good nitty gritty. It is very accessible to various skill levels. On top of all of that delicious goodness, there is room to practice on beautifully designed pages. This will absolutely be my go-to book for myself and will be my go-to gift for the foreseeable future. It is nice to purchase something that totally and completely exceeds my expectations (and they were set pretty high because Amy Latta is very talented.)

Thoughtfully Explained Book on Lettering!
I LOVE this book. If you are truly looking for a way decompress and also to learn a new skill - this is it. Amy Latta's book not only offers a lot of different lettering looks, but she also teaches you how to draw banners, arrows, swirls, laurel wreaths, and just about anything else you need to feel like you are a super crafty person. I have always been frustrated by not being able to draw, but she really breaks things down intelligently to teach you how to do things in a way that makes sense (at least to my brain). It has been a joy to sit down every night and practice and feel like I have learned and mastered something because of her thoughtful instruction. I have looked at a number of other lettering books, and I felt that this one was SO superior in the way that steps are broken down and explained clearly.

Beautiful, thorough, informative book
This is an amazing book! I wanted to learn brush lettering and realised there was much more to it than I thought! I wanted something to practice on so searched for practice sheets and this book came up. It is split into 47 workshops, covering faux calligraphy, banners, letters, highlights - there is too much to write down! Ypu start at the beginning (a very good place to start ;-) ) and just work your way through the workshops. I am using a variety of mediums - uniball pens, coloured pencils, ballpoint, brush pens, and will add watercolour pens soon.I am really enjoying this large, thorough, interesting, beautiful book and can't recommend it enough if you want to get learning lettering and all that goes with it to create your own masterpiece

Oh such fun!
I have always admired such beautifully presented journals that uses this type of art work, and having done a lot of calligraphy in my earlier years, I though I would give this a whirl.Well....how much fun is this book, and I have only completed the first two chapters! The paper does not bleed, not using Pigma Micron anyhow, that is all I had to start with (dabbled with a bit of Zentangle too, don't ya know). I am of the age that I was taught cursive writing at school, so to write like this is not so hard for me, as I have continued throughout my life. I wonder if younger people may not find it so easy? Not sure how handwriting is taught these days :)I am not so good with actually writing in books (and yes I know I am supposed to) but this book screams out 'write in me, you know you want to!'...and I have! But it is a whole lot of fun, and I am sure that, having purchased some of the pens recommended/used in the book, I shall be writing away with gay abandon soon. Just have fun with this, enjoy, and take some time out for yourself!

Great but no practice/ tracing sheets
OK, as I got half way through the book I had to rewrite my whole review. Overall I'm pleased to have purchased it. It will be my point of reference in the near future when working on my own designs.Negative:One thing I still want to point out again is the fact that I struggled at the beginning with no practice papers or proper alphabet examples available in the book. Eventually, I found some practice sheets on the author's website but some crucial stuff was still missing i.e basic brush strokes. I found better materials elsewhere online. After loads of research I purchased additional book by Sarah Ensign to help with everything that this book was missing (loads of practice/tracing sheets ect). I wanted write my letters properly since my handwriting was not the best but I later learnt that there is no right or wrong! However, you also need to learn how you connect letters, spacing, where to put your downstroke ect. all of this I was doing wrong without proper instructions and practice.Positive:I feel I'm at the stage where I would like to try my own designs and I have to say that this book thought me a lot! There are so many different techniques, frames, embellishments the list is endless. You can implement any of these in your own designs to make them look pretty. I made a couple of birthday cards and I almost managed to fool people thinking they were actually purchased! I still have long way to go but this book is full of great ideas for lettering, good quality, paper does not bleed and there is space for your project after each chapter. I feel the book is sometimes addressed to mum's so I tend to skip the text and go straight to instructions - the story aims to explain the quote that you are going to letter.... I'm too impatient and just want to letter :)

Beautiful simplicity
This book is so beautiful and relaxing to use - it guides you step by step to create beautiful handlettering and is easy and accessible. I actually prefer this to adult colouring books as I have a few disabilities that can make the repeated back and forth of colouring painful. This is also so much more useable - my diary and journal are both more beautiful than ever. The book itself is made of high quality paper that doesn’t bleed through. I use a beginners pack of Tombow pens and find its a perfect accompaniment
