Nexstar 6se - stop using your shipping box and get this
This is a great case. Much better than using the box my Nexstar 6se was shipped in. For a while I tried using a rubbermaid bin and reusing the foam packaging, but it was not that convenient to carry around. You couldn't carry it one handed. One side holds your scope. For the 6se you wont need the two foam spacer inserts. To get the 6se to fit, you need to stretch the case foam a bit to clear the visual back and focuser. At first I was concerned about the pressure of such a snug fit, but the foam does give a bit so it is fine. Be aware that the 4/5/6se will fit with the mount attached, but for the 8se you will need to remove the mount. Only the 8se optical tube will fit. The picture on the insert of the case (check out the pictures on the celestron site to see what I mean) shows the OTA placed with the hand control on the right and the bolt that attaches the tube to the fork arm pointing up, however I had to insert it reversed (mirrored) for that to work. In other words, when I place the OTA in the case I have the hand control on the left so the fork arm knob points up. If I placed it as the pamphlet showed, the knob would be pointing down and I think that would prevent it from laying truly flat. I had to remove the finderscope, not to mention the diagonal. The 4/5se might allow room to have them attached, but I wouldn't bet on it. It also has a nice seat belt buckle to secure it.The other side has a slightly rigid zippered flap the size of the entire side. It is recessed so as to have enough clearance when the case is closed. Unzipping the flap and lifting it up reveals it has a full length pocket on the other side. You could possibly fit notes and small starcharts within it. I place my eyepiece tray in it even though part of it sticks out. No worries since when the flap is zipped everything inside is separated from the OTA.Underneath where the flap lays, there are two velcro closed pouches. Inside one pouch there are three separated spaces. The other pouch has four. In one pouch, I could easily fit the finderscope, the diagonal, and AC power cord. The other pouch will accommodate eyepieces, filters and other odds and ends. The pouches themselves feel slightly padded as well. The handles include a velcro wrap to make sure the straps stay together. The outer shell is a bit rigid, but I would not go about dropping or banging it around. Don't expect to step on it and not crunch something inside. It is a vessel to store your OTA and accessories elegantly and convenient to carry around one handed. While the case itself looks like it would withstand normal wear and tear, I wouldn't want to cause any damage to it that would affect the contents inside.Do yourself a favor and get this case. While it is hard to justify the cost of this as opposed to a DIY solution. This is designed for your scope and it is worth it in my opinion.

Top Notch Telescope Case!
This is a top quality Celestron telescope case for the Nexstar and SE 4", 5" & 6" SCT scopes and mounts. It will even fit the Celestron 8" SCT OTA but without the mount (8" OTA only). Super solid thick dense foam interior and semi-hard-shell exterior. Plenty of space for the scopes and accessories. I have my Meade 8" ACF OTA inside with 2" diagonal and other 2" accessories. It's bigger than my thick padded tubular storage bag I had for it but not too, too big. It would have been nice if they didn't make the lid section as deep as the storage section and cut it down a couple inches but other than that it's a terrific case. My only complaint is that it IS a bit overpriced. You won't be disappointed though.

Well built and does what it says it does
This is a pretty good price for this product. It’s well built it protects my 4 inch SE and I have a 6 inch SE and it fits that too so I bought two of them.

Glad I spent the money, well worth it!
I have a Celestron NexStar 6 SE. I was against buying this case for a long time. I was so against spending so much money on a case that I almost brought my scope cross country in the box that it was shipped to me in. Now that I have the case though, I am so glad I bought it. After spending so much on a good scope, I figure it's worth it to suck it up and protect it! The case itself is very cool looking. The hard outer shell is good and strong and the case is easy to carry. We bought our scope for the purpose of bringing it cross country in our car, and camping. The case has a compartment inside, that has additional pockets inside of it- great for bringing some of our extra lenses that don't fit in our lens case, our lens cleaning tool, extra batteries, the lens holder for the tripod, our sky sync GPS, etc. - safely zipped up inside of one big pocket so that they don't fall out and damage the scope. As for protecting the tube of the scope- it fits VERY snug. Which is good, except I don't like how the visual back and star pointer seem to be pressing into the case. So, to add some extra protection for these items, I put my telescope into the case by laying the longer pad (that the case came with) horizontally across the top of the telescope tube. I also cut the other pad that the case came with down, and put it back into the fabric case- and I stand that up vertically. I feel like this adds extra protection so that the knob isn't just sort of "floating". The picture below shows how I pack my scope into the case. The case also has a strap that goes around the tube, and all of this combined keeps it good and safe for when were driving on very rocky dirt roads and walking long distances with it.So, though it is expensive, it is worth it. Very well worth it. It allows us to easily travel with our scope, and protects it far better than we ever could ourselves. Highly recommend!Update: 3 years later and we couldn't imagine not having a case for our telescope. It has really come in handy. We got a wagon so that we can go out to clearings in the woods. Setup is so easy, I put bright green tape on the pouches & labeled them with black marker so that everything is easy to find in the dark. Plus packing the telescope for travel is nothing with a good case to keep it in. We often stop at hotels where we have to lug our expensive stuff inside too so this is really helpful. So glad we bought it!

Works perfect
This is a great case although a tad pricey but everything involving telescopes is. The case holds the tube fine the way it should along with accessorie pockets for other things. However it will not hold the tripod or computer base you will have to seek other means for that.

Brand name is worthwhile over generic
This brand name case fits my Celestron 5se quite well. I use their other bag for the tripod mount. The brand name for the telescope bag is definitely worthwhile to fit the telescope itself and maintain a few accessories. The foam does appear to be different from the type found in generic storage cases which concerned me due to off gassing and potentially coating the expensive lenses. For this reason, the brand name product does seem worthwhile. The protection is actually quite good as it is semi-rigid, similar to carry on luggage with a flexible thin blow molded case.
