The XDesign mount came pre-assembled and so no need to figure out how to put it together (included instructions would come in handy if I had to take it apart and put it back together again).The mount can hold a Smartphone in vertical mode or horizontal mode. The bottom support is not adjustable and so the side grip arms aren’t exactly centered on the sides for a larger phone, but the mount did hold the phone securely and is perfectly acceptable considering the low price of the mount. I liked how I can still have access to the port to plug in my charging cable. The back button to release the side grip arms is nice and I liked the soft material on the mount and grip arms to cradle the phone.I appreciate that the mount had 2 car vent grip settings to accommodate both thin and thicker air vent blades. The mount had no problem holding my various phones tightly in the cars I tested it in. I was able to adjust the angle and position of my phone to my liking in both the vertical and horizontal position. I did find that it was easier to tighten the adjustment nut with the angle desired first before putting the mount in the car vent. The XDesign mount didn’t come loose or fly off from the vent like my other phone mount.In short, the XDesign mount is a serviceable product, and a good value, especially at the current sale price.

In the car, I've always just tossed my phone into a cupholder and picked it up if I needed to do something with it. This worked fine, but it meant I couldn't use the cupholder, and it wasn't very convenient if I was using my phone as a GPS. So I decided to give this phone holder a try. I noticed that it was made by the same company that made my earbuds, which I've been happy with, so I trusted that it would be made well.Overall, this does the trick. It keeps my phone up on my dash, which makes it easier to glance at while keeping my eyes on the road. It's really easy to get my phone in and out of the holder, too. I just drop my phone in and squeeze the sides of the holder; this "grips" my phone and securely holds it in place. I haven't had any problems with it falling out or coming loose. To take my phone out, I just push a button and the grip gently releases. It's reliable, secure, and fulfills its intended function.There are some things that could make it better, but it's hard to expect these "extras" at the price I paid; this was a basic, budget-friendly solution. But in a more expensive unit, I would like to see something that allows for easier re-orientation. As it is, my phone is in the portrait orientation. I can switch it to landscape, but it requires two hands and a fair amount of effort re-align everything. I'd love to see a "switch orientation" button or something that makes it easier to toggle between these two perspectives on-the-fly. But for the price I paid, I really can't complain.Overall, this is a nice product, and a great value considering it's relatively low price point.

I have been using my Air Vent Car Mount with an iPhone Xplus (a larger cell phone); this review is based on that device.In general this car mount is good. It’s price makes it competitive with other similar offerings. I found the connection from the mount to my car’s vent to be easy to use and provides a relatively tight grip. There are two different “settings” on the car mount vent connector; I used the tighter of the two settings and never had an issue with the mount coming off of the vent. The flip switch on the back of the mount is the access point to the vent attachment settings and grip. Once you find the right tightness setting, you likely won’t need to change it. Thus, while the access to this flip switch is on the back of the mount, it is not something you will be using often.My favorite part of this mount is the seat where the phone itself sits. The seat, when open, provides ample space for a larger phone like mine. To grip the phone into this seat, you simply pinch the side closed until the fit is snug. This is very easy and something you will use a lot, so it gets big points from me for being so easy to use and providing a snug fit on the phone.The release button to get your phone out of the seat is located at the bottom center of the mount. You simply push this button to open the “jaws” of the mount, and pull your phone out. Relatively straightforward, however if you press the button while holding the jaws or other supporting elements of the mount, the jaws do not open. It is not hard to figure out but this part of the design could be improved.Lastly, with regard to the seat, as the mount is attached to your car vents I found that if I’ve run my A/C in the car, when you press the button to open the jaws and release the phone the mechanism is a bit sluggish when opening. This is because the cold air from the vent is pouring directly on the mount. I used this mount in the summer months and thus experienced this with some frequency. I’m sure other mounts face the same challenges. It’s not a deal breaker by any means; sometimes you just have to use your fingers to spread the jaws open. Easy enough.My least favorite aspect of this mount is the adjustment collar that is accessible from the rear of the mount. This collar is intended to be screwed clockwise to tighten and counterclockwise to loosen. In order to get the angle and orientation of your phone correct as you sit in your car’s seat, you need to make many adjustments to get it just right. This means, you are using this collar often to losen/tighted the mount until you get it where you want it. Unfortunately, the collar is a bit difficult to access and more difficult to tighten and/or loosen (especially for larger phones like mine that weigh more and are longer in length). I found that if you loosen the collar just slightly, at least with my phone, the mount becomes too loose to even let go of. This is a problem when you are trying to make fine adjustments (which you do).The other issue with this collar is that if you want to flip between portrait and landscape mode, you have to unscrew this collar to rotate the mount to hold your phone in the different positions. Thus, more interaction with this collar screw. After a while, I gave up on rotating my phone to the landscape position and just used it regularly in the portrait position because it was too much effort to try to re-align the phone.Lastly, for my size phone I would not recommend using the mount in landscape position. The jaws that hold the phone fall below the midpoint of the phone so if you have it in landscape position, as you drive the phone shakes a lot. From my perspective, my phone is just too heavy and long to be used with this mount in the landscape position. It does however work great in the portrait position.I would like to see the collar screw adjustment be more fine grained and more accessible (make it larger and easier to grab and rotate), and I’d like to see the mount seat just a bit bigger so that the jaws can grab the phone at midpoint, providing a more sturdy grip which would reduce the shaking that you notice when you drive. I suspect this mount would work great with a smaller cell phone.It’s a good product in general and I use it daily with out issue. Once I got the alignment of the seat correct, I left it alone and it remains on my vent even when not in use.
