Unlocking the Bible Paperback – International Edition, April 2, 2007

David Pawson, one of the UK's most respected and long-standing prophetic teachers and church leaders, has packed into this book years and years worth of gems gleaned from his study and personal preparation for his teaching ministry. Not exactly a traditional bible commentary, but rather a well thought out introduction and overview and background to each book, author, and section of the bible. Amazing value for money for it's 1,050+ pages, definitely more gems per buck (and per page) than any other Christian book I've ever opened, this book will really help even the most mature Christian gain more understanding, revelation and background about each section of each book of the bible as well as being a wonderful introduction to the scriptures for anyone.For me, this is not just a one-time cover to cover read, but rather something I pick up and read often, sometimes before, with or even after my personal bible reading. It's something like but far more than the "Cliff Notes" of the Bible. I also find myself just delving in randomly since Pawson brings out so many interesting facts and aspects. On controversial or difficult to understand passages he presents all of the different traditional viewpoints and arguments along with his own view point and the scriptural, historical and always fascinating reasons that support or undermine each. "Unlocking the bible" is exactly what this book does. It's not theologically heavy, and you'll find yourself intrigued and desiring more and more of the bible when you read it!Go for it!

I listen to this in via the text-to-speech, and use the Bookmark, Note, Highlight, and tool for making study cards when I want to be able to easily find, review and really learn something. I value the tools provided by Kindle and very much the gifting of this author to put together and communicate such an extensive study of this deeply important material. He has left a legacy for all who are fortunate enough to discover it and recognize it's value.

It gives you a clear background of the authors of the Bible and why they wrote what they wrote. Explains things like who a Samaritan is, why we celebrate Christmas on Dec. 25 and why the exodus took so long. Really provides a better understanding of the Bible.

This book is undoubtedly the most helpful overview of the whole bible! It provides the much needed simply to understand and digest framework of each bible book background that enables the ordinary person to read the scriptures and understand it for themselves. It opens up - or rather unlocks - the purpose of each bible book without 'spoon feeding' actual bible texts out of their whole book context.The author's knowledge and ability to present difficult to understand Jewish cultural settings inwhich each scripture book was written is truly a gifted talent from God the Holy Spirit. It takes what the academics teach and makes it simple enough for the 'common people' to understand in total context. The book is not aimed at "Bible Professionals" but for teaching a 12 year old and an average individual who seriously seeks to be able to read and understand each Bible Book for themselves without being influenced by someone elses technique or opionion. It is the most fairest approach to bible reading I have ever known. A must for learning to know the character of the Christian/Jewish God!Its a very much needed source of straighforward help in today's confusing world with its myriads of Bible Commentaries and views.If you want to really know your bible - this book unlocks it for you! It's the 'lay person's' Ph.D bible course!

Pawson has a wonderful series of videos on youTube that give an intro to each book of the Bible, which is really needed since the basics of reading this "library" - the foundation of science, equal rights, abolition, and essentially the best parts of the modern world - is not taught in school anymore. However, the book is not the video series transcribed, as he took pains to make it, well, a book rather than a transcription. The format and content are different for each delivery method.After discovering how little the common person knew about the Bible, Pawson started a movement to get people reading the Bible again. His overviews of each book show how they fit into the whole, the main messages and points and signposts needed in order to understand why it is this way and what you are reading and how to apply it to life. All these are badly needed to avoid becoming a casualty of trying to read through the Old Testament without any guidance, especially books like Leviticus and Jeremiah.I don't agree with some of his interpretations such as "Jesus descending into hell to preach" but this is a very hard passage to undestand and Christian commentators have different view on it. However, not everyone will agree about everything, and the on the most important points there is widespread consensus, so it's not a biggie, unless you go the crazy way of Kenneth Copeland et al.Highly recommended along with his video series.

A good book whether you want to use it as a daily commentary or as an academic material. Good exegesis.

I've read the Bible (it took over 2 years!), but I wanted to actually understand it. This is FANTASTIC, well written, a very fast read, and I can't put it down! I am blown away by how this has FINALLY helped me to understand each and every book of both the Old and New Testament. David Pawson breaks down each every book, writes about it completely in an understanding and interesting way that keeps my attention. I am getting such joy from reading this and it is very uplifting to finally understand the Bible. I am getting so much out of reading this book, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

A wonderful book by an amazing teacher to unlock the Bible for people of all levels of knowledge of the word of God.

I have watched almost the entire series of the late and much missed David Pawson's Unlocking the Bible. This book covers the same topics - the full Bible every book from Genesis to Revelation. Pawsons style of writing is so engaging. A true man of God. And whilst I do not agree with all of David Pawsons theological views - this book is an invaluable aid to anyone wanting insight and explantation of the Bible - he does not comprise and speaks of Gods laws without apology. This is a book I will often delve into when wanting to get a deeper understanding of the Bible. And if you have not watched his Unblocking the Bible video series - then you should! ++

Every page of this book is worth reading. I am happy because I finally found a book that teaches and answers all my questions. I’m going to purchase some more of Mr. David Pawson’s writings. Highly recommended.
