Game Changer! Possibly my favorite tool purchase of this year.
When your chain is sharp, the chips that come off the bar will be long and curly, and the saw will cut with little effort. If you're generating sawdust, it means your chain is dull, and you're working way too hard. In the past, I've used conventional files and a Dremel attachment to sharpen my chainsaw chains with varying levels of success. This tool ROCKS! It's fast and accurate, and makes sharpening your chainsaw a no-brainer, even for us amateurs. It's definitely not another crappy gimmick that will wind up gathering rust at the bottom of a drawer in the garage. This tool is made in Germany, and it's exactly the same sharpener as the Stihl-branded one, although a different color. Make sure you get the correct size files for the chain you need to sharpen. There are two round files, positioned at the correct angle, and a flat file that correctly sizes the depth gauges ("rakers") at the same time it sharpens the cutting teeth. This eliminates the need for feeler gauges and a fussy process to adjust the depth gauges. It's designed for a full complement chain, if you have a skip-tooth chain, you need to remove the flat file, which eliminates a lot of the reason to use this instead of files and feeler gauges.I have an older Stihl 026 saw that I use for general yard cleanup and for cutting firewood to length. In the past, I sharpened my chains a couple of times a year, generally when I noticed they were already dull. Now, I use this device as a matter of routine saw maintenance, a light touch-up whenever I clean the saw or add gas is enough to keep the chain razor sharp.Beware the low-cost Chinese knockoffs on ebay. The files are not as good, and there's no point trying to save 20 bucks if the tool doesn't work.

just like the stihl 2-in-1
I think these guys (pferd) make the ones stihl sells for +20%. This one is blue insdead of orange. It works just like the orange one. Easy enough to use & does its job. I like that it hits the rakers while sharping the teeth. Beware its intended for full house or semi-skip -- full skip can be done but requires some finesse.

Best sharpener for chains yet...
If you buy this sharpener from Stihl, you are buying this Pferd sharpener painted orange, and paying a lot more. It's the SAME exact tool!!Tool is kick axx and easy to use, best tool I've ever used to sharpen a chain and I own automatic sharpeners. I like this better.

Best manual chainsaw file on the market
These files are great. I now own 3 different sizes to sharpen the 6 different saws we use. They are a bit pricey but when you consider you are getting the file carrier, 2 chainsaw files, and one flat file they don’t seem quite so pricey. As you sharpen the tooth the flat file also slightly takes the top off the raker tooth to keep your saw biting well as you cut. When you flip the tool over to sharpen the other side of the chain you are using the second file which means this setup should last 2x as long as just a single file would.

Great Reviews but no instructions
I had given this a 1 star review because I couldn't figure out how to use it, but the seller emailed me to check it out on youtube... then a friend came over and it was so easy I feel like a dope. This thing is amazing. My chainsaw cuts like new. I guess I've been doing it wrong all these years. It's so cool. This review below is what I originally left as my review.Guess I'm not too bright... For an old guy who would never make it on survivor without complete instructions this "Chain Sharp CS-X" is a complete puzzle. For 30 years now I have sharpened my chains the old fashioned way. Trained by a logger, I cut 15 cords a year to heat our home. So bar no expense... I decided something a little more accurate would be good in my golden years and make life a bit easier. This "Chain Sharp CS-X arrived last winter and now it's spring and I discover the kit comes with no instructions. My Bad... as they say these days. Worthless to me with nothing to go by. Maybe it won't sharpen a Stihl 025, chain # 33 RS3 72Hmmupdate...Oh by the way it does it perfectly

Easy to use
Makes sharpening a chain much simpler and faster. Flat file is set to take the rakers down as you sharpen.

Saw filing guide that is actually useful
There are many tools available to sharpen saw chains, most of which are not worth the money. I have used several of them over the last 45 years, including some of the more expensive guides, and have been dissatisfied with all of them. The Pferd is the first guide I have found that will consistently produce a sharp chain, and is significantly faster than free-hand filing. The included premium files cut fast and leave a very smooth finish on the teeth. This results in excellent cutting performance that is better than new chain. I expect to be able to sharpen 10 full complement chains for my 25" bar before replacing the round files. The added feature of filing the depth gauges is also a nice feature.Stihl sells a similar filing guide, but the Pferd tool is much less expensive. I highly recommend this tool with the Pferd premium line files.

Works Like the Stihl
I have the PFERD brand for my 3/8 pitch chains and the Stihl brand for my 3/8P and .325 chains. This sharpener does the job of filing the cutter and the depth gauge at the same time. I use them all the time in the field and they are so easy the use. Periodically I will manually adjust the depth gauges to something more than the .025" this sharpener sets them to, but for quick filing, this works. The one thing I will recommend, is that you should keep a stiff brush nearby when filing to keep the metal particles cleaned out of your files while your filing.I had an issue with my sharpener making my depth gauges uneven depths, but PFERD took care of it and sent me a new one. It took a while and several phone calls, but they stood by it. I sent the old one in for analysis, as they felt it was just an anomaly. I have to admit that I tend to agree with them as there really isn't a lot that can go wrong with these things. If this one works out with no problems, I may come back and change it from 4 stars to 5.
