THIS IS NOT BOAT PAINT ITS GARAGE FLOOR/POOL PAINT
OK so I don't wish to insult the older Gentleman who's paint this Is as he's the guy who you speak too if you need to find out information should your application of this paint not go as planned. For the record I am a boat builder of 3 decades now and my specialty these days is the final finish. I was given this paint to test by a mate who's boat I was refurbishing as a homer job. He's a builder mostly on fancy builds so had used the same brand paint on garage floors and outdoor mortar swimming pools. I warned him that if he's recommending the paint supply then I'm not responsible for any problems along the line as I can only guarantee a mint long term finish with the brands I trust and recommend. Anyway he took the route of ordering this stuff against my advice so I kept out of it other than showing him test panels I had done before it was used in his boat. The tests where horrific it never cures on any GRP surface containing genuine epoxy like WS 105 being the benchmark, it simply soaks into marine ply and gets a chalk finish from the get go but still has the non-cured feel to it so even a microfiber cloth can leave imprints on it. After seing the utterly disasterous test results I do with every new brand paint I phoned them up to ask them if there was a specific way to apply the paint so it acted as an expected from marine grade epoxy paint. The elderly Gentleman was confused almost immediately as i asked if the true mixture ratio is by volume or weight (planning on mixing only what I needed being the reason for this question) a question that I usually don't need to ask as its on the data sheet for every other paint I know of. I then asked him what thinner to use he replied "water as its water based" which is 100% completely wrong and I found after rigorous testing that T0200 thinners is what it needs and to make matters even worse is he had no idea what "rolling and tipping" is he didn't realise on boats you need to push the paint right in and seal up by rolling then brushing off with a brush full of heavily thinned out paint. IT GETS WORSE! I then asked about spray application as it claims you can spray it on. He didn't have a clue as to what I meant by tip size or if it worked better in an airless sprayer. He didn't even know what I meant when I said "I usually use between a 1.8 and 2.2mm tip with my epoxy sprayguns" he went radio silent for about 10secs then admitted he knew nothing about what I meant and told me he would get his "chemist guy" to help me. Anyway it's been 18 month now no chemist guy contacted me despite asking 3 times and ALL of the original test panels I did have failed and my mates boat the only part I was willing to do in this paint was the inside of the cuddy and that's chalked off now despite having no UV from the sun and been kept dry. This is NOT marine paint it never cures on GRP and has zero scratch or imprint resistance and it simply cannot adhere to genuine epoxy so be warned.. be well warned.
