Q: does it make vegetable spaghetti.

It does make short lengths of thin vegetables with the right attachement. I have actually abandoned mine as I find it too difficult to use, as the plastic "slider" that you grip just keeps coming off.

Yes. There is a protector which is in the picture It is a light transparent purple colour and allows you to run the item of food up and down.

It was the same with mine. The blade can be moved higher and lower to enable the width of cut, and the blade with serrations is a waste of time, so removing it is best (it is removed with the two finger tight nuts on each of the sides). I use it for cucumbers, which it cuts really well. The plastic loose part is so that when you cut a small piece of vegetable, you will not cut the palm of your hand. You prod it on the vegetable and slide the vegetable and guard your hand as the vegetable gets smaller. Take care when you use it, as the base is not too stable, and you should also only cut items that do not require much force on the mandolin blade. As you tip the table with the screw on the bottom, so you adjust the cut you will achieve. Make sure the blade is tight, though, by tightening the screws. Take care when you use the item, as the blade can easily cut you if you try to cut something close to the blade and don't take care. Practise with a cucumber or a banana (after removing the skin) for the first time you use it.Alan Pollard.

Q: can you buy spare blades as I ahve lost mine ?

I think that with the price of the mandolin being cheap, you could buy another mandolin, as the company is from Taiwan or China, which makes spare parts difficult to resource. Most people got instructions in Chinese, as I did, so knowing where to e-mail is not known. Sorry, I think spare parts are not able to be purchased.
