I recommend this rack for your equipment, super durable and solid rock.

What I really like about the SKB 4U rack is the weight of it. Its really light weight, but very sturdy. I heard bad reviews on this rack but decided to give it a shot and I really like it. I use if for my QLXD wireless systems i just bought. I also noticed how the tops that come off are reinforced from the inside. Even better! I have nothing bad to say about it!

I bought this as a means to carry ham radio gear in sort of a portable, ready to go station for emergency communications. It is not a common rack case used for this purpose. Most my ham radio buddies use a competitor product. I get ALOT of compliments whenever I whip this baby out. It is elegant, sleek and sturdy. It holds my ham radio gear well, and the seal adds an extra protection against moisture (although NOT weather or water proof). I am very happy with it. Oh, and customer service is superb too!

I am also a Ham Radio operator who was looking for an enclosure in which to build a "To Go Box". This little rack was ideal. The removable back makes it a snap to access cabling plus it provides superior ventilation when the equipment is under heavy use. The rugged handles make it easy for me to load and unload from my car plus there are no sharp contact points which could cause damage to the car interior. One small complaint concerns the vertical metal rails which are used to secure the equipment and panels. All four of these have a slight angular twist, about 5 degrees,which cause narrow panels to bow outward when the screws are snugged up. I compensate for this by not fully tightening the screws.

So SKB is generally considered to be a good company for road cases, and for the most part this one is ok. However, as I discovered, their quality control is not all that great, and the rails are not exactly within the spacing. I had to really work the last piece into it, with all 6 U full of gear, it was extremely tight on one side, with a gap big enough to stick 2 pennies thru on the other side. I’d give it 5 stars if they had paid more attention to the details in manufacturing.

Great quality and exactly what I needed

I like the compactness of the rack. I have an X32 Rack and Furman power supply on a shelf with an Airport Express plugged in back. The X32 Rack just fits in the case. The power cord will need to be removed from the X32 in order to close the back. There is enough room on the shelf rack for the X32 cord to be stored in the case while closed though.I have a 2U of this same case that has my wireless monitoring system in it and being able to stack these two cases is nice.I know others have complained about the threads of the rack holes not working with the included screws, but I found that it didn't take much effort to get the screws in. I wasn't able to screw them in with just my had, but it was easy with a phillips screw driver.

The latches open easily so I have to constantly be picking things up off the floor. The hooks of the latches are too shallow.

Nice size, light weight. Latches come undone when they have contact with anything and the lid falls off. They're very loose when fully latched and there appears to be no way to tighten them. No confidence in this protecting my gear.

I move away from a traditional wood and metal case to this. I'd never go back! It's a small fraction of the weight and very sturdy.Love it!
